Chapter 4: Getting Help

Finding Out What an Onscreen Object Is

Many dialog boxes in both Windows and application programs have a small question-mark button in the upper-right corner, next to the Close button. This Help button enables you to find out what an object is. Click this question-mark Help button, and then click an item in the dialog box--an icon, button, label, or box. A small window appears with a description of the object you clicked. To dismiss the window, click anywhere in the dialog box.

Another way to display information about an item on the screen is to right-click it. If a menu appears that includes the What's This command, choose it. Or, select the item you want information about and press the F1 key.
