Chapter 14: Printing and Faxing
What Is the Printers And Faxes Folder? The command center for printing and faxing is the Printers And Faxes folder, shown in Figure 14-1. Each printer and each fax device that your computer knows about has an icon in this folder, and you start the process of adding a new printer by clicking the Add Printer link in the task pane. The default printer (the HP DeskJet in the figure) has a check next to it. The number of documents in a device's queue is shown next to its icon. (In Figure 14-1, the HP DeskJet has one document waiting to be printed, while the other printer and the fax are idle.)
Figure 14-1: Windows keeps track of printers and fax devices in the same folder. You can open the Printers And Faxes folder from the Control Panel. If you are using the category view of the Control Panel, you can find the Printers And Faxes icon in the Printers And Other Hardware category. You can add Printers And Faxes to the Start menu as follows:
- Right-click the Start button and select Properties from the shortcut menu. The Taskbar And Start Menu Properties dialog box appears.
- Click the Customize button on the Start Menu tab. The Customize Start Menu dialog box appears.
- Click the Advanced tab of the Customize Start Menu dialog box.
- Check the Printers And Faxes check box. Then click OK to close each of the dialog boxes you opened.
