Deleting the Backup of Your Previous Version of Windows

If you upgraded to Windows XP, the Setup Wizard may have kept a backup copy of your previous operating system, which can occupy 50MB or more of disk space. If you are sure that you will never want to uninstall Windows XP, follow these steps to delete the previous operating system files:

  1. Choose Start | Control Panel | Add Or Remove Programs.
  2. If Windows XP Uninstall appears in the Currently Installed Programs list, there is a backup copy of your previous operating system.
  3. Click Windows XP Uninstall. Additional information appears.
  4. Click the Change/Remove button. You see the Uninstall Windows XP dialog box.
  5. Click Remove The Backup Of My Previous Operating System, and then click Continue. Windows deletes the unneeded file.
