The Windows Desktop

Desktop - Think of your desktop at work, it has the things you use most often. Like your Typewriter, Coffee Cup, Calculator and your address book. You can use your Windows desktop the same way. You might have a shortcut to your word processor, your favorite game and your internet browser all can be placed on the desktop.

Window s - can be resized, moved and closed. Windows usually contain icons or open with a new application.

Icons - Are little pictures that represent applications or documents. You double click these icons to run a program or open a document. If you have every work in Dos before it was harder to open a application. You would have to type a certain command like C:\wp\wp.exe to open the application, but not in windows.
 
 
 

Start Menu - The most common way to start an application or document. You will also use the start menu to shut down the computer.

Minimize/ open applications - Are applications that you have minimized to the taskbar. They run off the screen in the background so you can open them later in the day.

System Tray - Contains a clock with tells the current time. It also contains the volume control used to adjust the windows volume, you may have this on the front of your speakers. It may contain an anti - virus program to check for viruses.

To Shutdown the computer:

Click on the Start Menu

Click on Shutdown..

Click Yes..
