Student Protest Against Macintosh
"Welcome to the official web site of the Student Protest Against Macintosh (SPAM). This web site is devoted solely to making fun of and trashing the Macintosh Operating System (or is it Macintrash? I forget). Below are links to a couple of other pages on this site that should help you in your fight against Macintosh." This is the first sentence you see when you enter this site. Many people can tell you what kind of site this is the instant they see this sentence. There are a hundred of them all over the web in every language and angry adolescents have been creating them since the beginning of the internet. And yes, merely a year ago some would call the Mac Revolution one as well. This, my friends, is a hate site.
Why do people create hate sites? A pretty good theory is a mixture of immaturity, inexperience, and lack of information. Luckily, the end product is absolutely no threat to the Mac community. As I viewed SPAM it became apparent that the creator was very young. Indeed, I soon discovered that he was in 6th or 7th grade (younger than I thought, actually).
At the bottom of the main page, in red letters it states, "WARNING: If You Are One Of Those Anti-Microsoft Freaks Who Wants To See What "The Other Side" Thinks Of You, It Is Strongly Suggested That You Leave This Site Now Before You Suffer Long Term Psychological Damage." Every single anti-Apple hate site I've ever visited is identical to this one, which proves that all of the "angry adolescents" think that they are special, that they think they actually have something at their sites. In reality Mac lovers can take pride in the fact that this is all our opposition has; seventh graders with inferiority complexes and too much time on their hands.
The Why Macs Are Garbage section is an evangelist that was ripped off from an earlier hate site. It looks like the "webmaster" added a few more uncleaver reasons onto the end and changed "THEY JUST PLAIN SUCK" to "THEY JUST PLAIN STINK" (which could be evidence of adult help with this site). As I recall, the earlier hate site was created sometime around 1999, which puts the evangelist way out of date. Here are some examples of the lack of knowledge at this site:
28. Apple's CEO gets a salary of $1.00 per year. Pretty sad when a computer company's CEO gets less than most kids' weekly allowance.
24. Have you ever wondered why the new Macintosh mice don't have the little ball in the bottom of the mouse? Because Apple couldn't afford them.
22. Macs freeze up for no reason. Sure, IBMs might SEEM freeze up every now and then, but IBMs are actually working when they "freeze up;" Macs just sit there and take up space (wait a minute; Macs just sit there and take up space even when they're not frozen up).
14. The Apple Company couldn't even use a full apple as their logo. Says a lot about the quality of their products if they can't even use a complete logo.
3. Upgrades and software are at a minumum. Once you buy a Mac, you get the software that came with it, and that is about it.
A few of the images in the Image Gallery I found kind of funny. I even took a few and put them in my Image Gallery. Most of the images were incredibly inaccurate in their depictions of Mac OS.
The section entitled "A Macintosh Question and Answer Session" is just a joke page. Some of them were kind of cleaver, but still inaccurate. Macintosh Anecdotes is just a page of longer jokes.
Things to do With a Macintosh looks like a bad copy of How to Kill Bill. They are all unoriginal and there are only twenty-one of them. How to Kill Bill has over 300 and every one of them are funny!
About SPAM basically outlines the complex creation of this far-reaching and elite organization. "SPAM started with the dream of one sixth grader named Jacob [Last Name Removed]. After growing tired of using Macs in his school, he decided to do something about it. Jacob wanted to start a group that would let people know how he felt, but he didn't know what to call it. After thinking for three days, the name came to him in the middle of math class; SPAM. He didn't know what the letters would stand for, but he knew that he would call his group SPAM. Five minutes later, while the rest of the class was working on dividing fractions, it came to him: Student Protest Against Macintosh. The next day, he typed a sign-up sheet and brought it to school. Within the first 15 minutes, he had eight members join the group. At the end of the week, SPAM had more than 15 members; and that was in March of 2002. The idea of starting AAMP (Adult Anti-Macintosh Protest) was juggled around, but since SPAM couldn't get that many adults involved, the idea for AAMP was quickly dropped. Now, just as the people's desire to trash Macintosh continue to grow, SPAM continues to expand."
Yes, I know. Right now you're shaking your head and thinking to yourself, "Macman, quit picking on little kids," but I felt it necessary to write this to outline what a hate site is and how incompetent and immature their so-called "webmasters" are. Also, if Jacob ever sees this (I doubt it though. There's no way to contact him at his site and I doubt he has the attention span to read this) perhaps it will be a wake-up call to him that we do know what the other side thinks and we don't give a damn.
