Developing the ear from birth. Teaching Vocal Music Reading, or "Sight-singing" at the primary level. Musical Intelligence. Cultural Intelligence. .............. PROGRESSIVE MUSICAL INTELLIGENCE CDs

These CDs are to be played from birth to age six. The accompanying books are to be used when the child is ready to read music.

Parent CD/book I. "Lullabies".
The CD is to be played, ideally, with the speaker placed on the belly before birth. The songs alternate comforting words with the lullaby syllables geared toward instilling pitch structure. There are comforting traditional Christian religious texts in some of the songs.

Parent CD/book II."Teaching Your Child". AVAILABLE

see "Preschooler" link below.

Parent CD/book III. "Logan and the Animals".
The parent plays the CD and follows the illustrated story with the child.

Parent CD/book IV. "Hans Visits the Woodworkers".
Here is another illustrated story with short musical phrases to be followed together by parent and child.

Parent CD/book V. "Rhymes".
These nursery rhymes are about growing up. After the child has heard the recording, the Kindergarten teacher or parent can teach note reading, having the children sing the white notes as 'Da' and the black notes as 'dee'. Thus, these are not just any nursery rhymes; they are deliberately composed to teach note reading with 'Da-dee' after having been heard as just fun songs with the silly words. Even the words imitate the later pitch structure teaching of da-dee: "Pret-ty Kit-ty" (falling minor third twice, 5-3-5-3) becomes later "Da-dee Da-dee" for example. Whenever possible, while creating these little songs, for resonant notes 5 and 1, I sought open vowels in the words, corresponding to 'Da', while for sensitive notes 3 and 6, I sought closed vowels in the words, corresponding to 'dee'. ..............
