John Torrance

John Torrance and I grew up in Drumchapel Glasgow; we have known each other from a very young age. It all started when both John's family and my family moved from Maryhill to Drumchapel, both our mothers were good friends, so as you will see John and I grew up to be the best of friends.

We both went to the same schools and were in the same class right up to secondary school, we both got into trouble and had good times as children.

One of my fondest memories was when I was 11 years old; one day we were playing at the Red Rocks which was up Peel Glen, when we both saw a dog, which was a stray. John not looking properly said here boy, but myself seeing that it was a female dog said here Lady. Well no guesses who the dog went to, later on both John and I went to my house with the dog, which I was always doing anyway, and I asked my mum if I could keep her. For once the surprise was mine and I was allowed to keep Lady, although Lady stayed with me John always thought of Lady as his as well.

Well next to when both of us left school, we both seemed to drift apart for a few years; we kept in touch but not like when we were younger. When I was 19 years old John got married, it was to be another 3 years before I was to be married, John still stayed in Drumchapel But I got a flat in Partick. It was now that we sort of came back to each other, going to a pub in Bearsden and playing darts for the pub team.

We both have much the same hobbies such as keeping fish in tanks, breeding birds (the feather kind), and fishing. We are both members of the Drumclyde Sea Angling Club, but due to the problems that I have with my health, I have to do less sea fishing and now go to trout fisheries, where I do not have far to walk. Being such a good friend John goes fishing with me to the fisheries, and helps me with carrying the rods and such like, (this is not to say that John does not like trout fishing as much as I do, he goes a lot more than me). So I think you can see why I say John is my best friend, he is more like a brother to me. John thanks for being my best friend.
