Research Note: Jan 27, 1898, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Exeter News: Died, the beloved wife of John Armstrong, died Jan 10, 23 years. She leaves a bereaved husband and one child to mourn her loss. Her funeral was preached at the M. E. Church and she was buried in the city cemetery. Her loss is felt by many friends. May the blessing of God always be with her and her bereaved friends. X Ray. - Marriage Note: There is a marriage for John W. Armstrong and Laura Marshall both of Exeter dated July 30, 1901. John W. Armstrong was the son of Kavanaugh Armstrong and Martha Powell, both buried in Maplewood.

Janet Sue Thomson
WAYNESVILLE, Mo. - Janet Sue Thomson of Waynesville, daughter of Edward Harold Vandergriff and Maxine (Gladden) Vandergriff Norman, was born December 27, 1940, in Waynesville, Missouri. Janet grew up in Waynesville and graduated from high school in 1959. As a young girl, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized in the Deerlick Baptist Church. For 17-1/2 years, Janet worked as a pharmacy technician at the K-Mart store in D'Iberville, Mississippi. She became medically disabled in August, 1993. She was a member of the Lighthouse Fellowship Full Gospel Church in Gulfport, Mississippi. Janet received many awards and trophies for her beautiful ballroom dancing. She was an excellent seamstress and published a cookbook. After her long battle with cancer, Janet went home to be with her Lord the morning of March 30, 2000, at her parents' home in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 3 days. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her mother and stepfather, Maxine and Rev. Frank Norman of Columbia; one son, Timothy Thomson of Biloxi, Mississippi; three daughters, Tamera Thomson of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Melody Harris of Houston, Texas, and Darla Swiatowy of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; one sister, Nora Doreen Smith of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Sherrie, Shaun and Sarah Thomson, Angela and Jason Sapp and Felecia, Shane and Seth Swiatowy, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Harold Vandergriff; her brother, Edward Lawrence Vandergriff; her maternal grandparents, Seth and Myrtle Gladden and paternal grandparents, Everett Augustus Vandergriff and Elma (Carmack) Vandergriff Foster. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in Deerlick Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Norman officiating. A tape of Janet's daughter, Melody singing, "Wind Beneath My Wings" was played. "Beyond the Sunset" was also played. Her daughter, Darla read a poem. Oliver Brilhante, Sammie Cooper, Daryl Norman, Jason Sapp, Mike Swiatowy and Louis Tokar served as escorts. Burial was in Deerlick Cemetery, Pulaski County. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnes Jewish Hospital Breast Cancer Research Fund.
