Mary, who married William Donoho, was the first Anglo-Americanwoman to traverse the Santa Fe Trail and the first Anglo-American woman to reside in Santa Fe. She apparently arrived there with her husband in 1833 and left in 1839.

There is a book about this aspect of her life: Mary Donoho: First Lady of the Santa Fe Trail, written by Marian Meyer in 1990.

Was a mid-wife and neighborhood doctor. Gathered herbs and made own medicine. Said to have been 1/8th Cherokee and to have taught her children to be proud of it. (Uncertain)

Buried in Sewell Cemetery, Crocker, MO, on Dec. 30, 1913 (According to Death Certificate)

I went to the Sewell Cemetery (off Cortez Rd, south of Hancock, East of Crocker) and did not find a stone for her. Seems unlikely to me that her children -- several of whom lived out there lives in the Crocker area -- would not have provided one, so perhaps she isn't buried there.

Gus was a fairly well known fiddler. He and Vernice Vandergriff had a barbershop in Waynesville. It's told that they used to fiddle during slow times.
