For once I'm going to do a serious review of something. If this last statement shocks you, its either because you haven't found one thing to be funny on this website and kept reading with the thought that this was somekind of blog.
Whatever. So heres the Review. Its of the game Myst. Why Myst? Well because it happens to be one of my favorite games, and if you dont like it, you are wrong. So heres the game.
So far, there have been 5+ games that came out after Myst that were all sequals. Those are equally just as good games, not to mention with much better graphics and with a much better "draws you in" story. This was the game that started it all and one that sticks out in my mind the most.
For those of you who have played Myst, you either kept playing with intent to figure out what the hell was going on or you went , "What the hell??" and stopped playing because there weren't any lasers or robots or naked people. Well thats not the point. The point is to USE YOUR BRAIN! I have seen alot of people play this game coming into it as though it is some kind of action FPS. Of course if you play it like that you are going to get nothing let alone a whole lot of boring.
So lets explain the Premise. You start out looking at this wierd little book. On the book , is a moving picture of an island fly by. You think this pretty normal for your weekend acid trip , until you touch the picture. You are automatically transported to the island. You then find yourself standing on a dock.If you haven't looked up from your "see Spot Run" reading level 1 book, then you probably haven't guessed that the island is named Myst. Well it is.
The beauty of the game is that you dont know anything about nothin, and you have to figure out what is going on and how to get off the island. In my opinion thats pretty cool. Too bad if you are a whiner, and can't handle using your brain for once. So you start walking around, and since you dont live there, not even as a summer home, you dont know what the hell anything does. There are a crap load of puzzles on the island and if you feel compelled to solve them (which you should) you will discover what needs to be done. They aren't puzzles like the JR. Jumble most of you are used to doing, they are mechanical or step based 'puzzles', really, that involve figuring out the ancient script some dead guys wrote so you can open a secret door.End of story. Buy the game and graduate from Pre-School.
The game is played from a first person perspective, and the movement is completely point and click based. Unlike its more advanced cousins, the first Myst game does not give you the 360 look ability. It is a strictly one frame at a time thing. This doesn't ruin the game in any way seeing that the enviroment is very very beautiful. The game is also very creepy at some points. You have no interaction with anybody else save two characters trapped inside two books (yeah , its a not a book from the library).
I wont ruin any of the game for those of you SMART ENOUGH TO PLAY, but you are taken to some really awesome kick-bollocks places besides the island.
Heres my final score of the game.
GRAPHICS:Super Awesome
GAME PLAY:Slow but intelligent
TIME:This game takes a crap load of time to play
OVERALL SCORE:I give it a 9 out of 10, only because sometimes the puzzles are freaking hard out of this world.
