I cover my ears
desperate not to hear
heartfelt pleas
close my eyes
squinting
seeing
a thousand tortured souls
loneliness racking them
with pain
a pain
others might not see
a pain
known all too well
to me.
Longing
wanting to rescue them all
but I can rescue
only one
me
maybe

Could I
rescue someone else ?
Maybe
if someone
rescues me back
rescues me
from me.
