Synopsis:
Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) has just lost his wife, Tina (Rani Mukherjee), due to childbirth. His daughter, Anjali (Sana Saeed) and his mother (Farida Jalal) is all he is left with. Tina has left eight letters for her daughter to read on every birthday. The eighth one is the most important. Anjali reads the letter and Tina discusses in the letter about his best friend, Anjali (Kajol). There is an important task that Tina has asked her daughter to carry out. It's up to Anjali to do it. SPOILER:In her last letter to her daughter Anjali, Tina relates the story of how Anjali/Kajol and Rahul were best friends. There is a flashback to tell the story. Anjali/Kajol finally realizes she is in love with Rahul, but then Tina comes into the picture. Rahul falls in love with Tina. Heartbroken and never confessing her feelings to Rahul, Anjali/Kajol leaves school and goes out of their lives. Tina tells her daughter to please bring Anjali/Kajol and Rahul back together.
Anjali the daughter learns that Anjali/Kajol is working at a music camp. Anjali the daughter and Rahul’s mother (who is in on the plot) scheme and sneak away to the camp against Rahul’s wishes. Anjali the daughter calls Rahul and pretends to be sick, causing him to race to the camp. There he sees Anjali/Kajol. They wind up developing feelings for each other but Anjali/Kajol’s fiancé (Salman Khan) shows up.
In the end, Anjali the daughter tells Anjali/Kajol’s fiancé about what is going on. During what was to be their wedding, he tells her that he would never stand between her and her first love.
Rahul and Anjali/Kajol wind up together. Anjali the daughter sees her mother’s spirit who is beaming proudly at her.
