Synopsis:
In Shabd, Antara (Aishwarya Rai), a college professor married to writer Shaukat, played by Sanjay Dutt. One day Antara meets Yash (Zayeed Khan), a spirited young man who is immediately drawn to Antara and makes no attempt to hide it. When Antara mentions this to her husband he is intrigued rather then angry and asks her to indulge the young man, hoping to use it as source material for his book. However, increasingly the writer Shaukat wants Yash out of the novel as much as the husband Shaukat wants him out of their lives. (taken from inoxmovies.com)
SPOILER:
Shaukat Vashist believes that he controls the people in his life as he controls the characters he creates.
He almost wills his wife Antara to become romantically involved with a young professor Yash, inorder to provide material for his new book, from her experiences.
She starts to actually feel something for Yash, which creates a major point of conflict with Shaukat, who realizes he loves his wife too much to risk loosing her to another ( even if he encouraged her to do so in the beginning).
He asks Antara to stop meeting Yash, in the hope that Yash would kill himself out of grief since he was so much in love with Antara.
Antara breaks the news to Yash that she is married towards the end of the movie, Yash however seems to accept the news with equanimity.
Shaukat gets seriously schizophrenic and believes that Yash should die ( because thats how he wrote it).
Antara realizes her husband has serious psychological issue and gets him committed to an asylum. The movie ends with Antara telling her husband she will wait for him to get better. - (Contributed by Gul)
