Interview with Peter Kubik Abigor band member(2001)

SFM - A the beginning tell us a few words about history of Abigor. You have had a lot of changes in Your Line-up. Introduce us Your present Line-up?

ABIGOR was formed in mid 1993 by T.T. and P.K. Immediately after that, Rune (now known as Tharen) joined ABIGOR as vocalist. The first demo, entitled 'Ash Nazgh...' was released in autumn 93, and in December the second demo, 'lux devicta est'. In February 94 the 'Promo-Tape II/94' was released, and in March the last official demo, 'Moonrise'. After the release of 'Moonrise', Tharen had to leave ABIGOR because of his passivity and lack of dedication. He was then replaced with Silenius. With Silenius on vocals they recorded a limited demo tape, entitled In 'Hate & Sin' and also signed a multi-record deal with the Austrian label NAPALM RECORDS. In June 94 the debut CD 'Verwüstung / Invoke The Dark Age' was recorded, and 'Verwüstung' convinced with outstanding Black-Metal, so it set ablaze ABIGOR's mark as one of the best bands within the Black-Metal genre. In November 94 the concept MCD 'Orkblut - The Retaliation' was recorded. 'Orkblut' is the story of a warrior who remembers his pagan origins which inflame his heart. It shows his life from the day he rises, his feelings and his last battle, until his death and the severance of flesh and spirit. In Spring 1995 the overworked demo-song 'Shadowlord' was exclusively recorded for the NAPALM Compilation 'With Us Or Against Us Vol.1'. In May 95 ABIGOR entered the studio again to record 'Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom)', and it showed the first time ABIGOR's real capacity, and their ability of realizing majestic soundscapes of dark atmospheres as it's best. In November the same year they started the recordings for the first chapter of 'Opus IV', entitled 'Horns Lurk Beyond The Stars'. In May 96, 'Blut Aus Aeonen', the second chapter of 'Opus IV' was recorded, and the final result, 'Opus IV', was released in July 1996. With 'Opus IV' ABIGOR did again a step forward, and they shocked with a very aggressive, technical, and strange album, yet still typical for ABIGOR's everlasting way of development.
In January 97, the MCD 'Apokalypse' was recorded in two days, the most raw and brutal ABIGOR release so far as ABIGOR's tribute to the values and true spirit behind Black Metal. From November 97 through January 98, 'Supreme Immortal Art' was recorded, and with 'Supreme Immortal Art' ABIGOR entered again the realms of very dim and atmospheric Black-Metal. As a result of the good response on 'Supreme Immortal Art' a 7", entitled 'Structures Of Immortality' was released, with a limitation to 500 copies, at the end of September 98. And because of the numerous inquiries regarding ABIGOR demo material, the band has decided to release a strictly limited demo-CD (to 1500 copies) on the 12th of October 98. The CD, entitled 'origo regium 1993-1994', was again released through NAPALM RECORDS. origo regium' offered a few selected songs (Kingdom Of Darkness, Eye To Eye At Armageddon, Diabolic Unity, Midwintertears, ...) from the first 4 demos. But both releases, the 7" and the demo-CD are already sold out, and won't be reprinted. From January to March 99, the CD 'Channeling The Quintessence Of Satan' was recorded. During the recording session Silenius left ABIGOR because of personal reasons. So Thurisaz joined ABIGOR as new vocalist and the album has finally been finished, and released through NAPALM RECORDS at the 17th of May 1999. A very powerful, and transparent production, as well a high musical standard, combined with the mental attitudes of Black-Metal reflects the spirit of 'Channeling The Quintessence Of Satan', it's ABIGOR's most extreme and aggressive album yet! At the 8th of May 1999 the cover-version of SLAYER's 'Crionics' was recorded for the US label DWELL RECORDS. 'Crionics' was released through a tribute album in early 2000. In November 1999 the cover-version of KREATOR's 'Terrible Certainty' was again recorded for DWELL RECORDS and released in spring 2000. In April 2000 ABIGOR signed a new multi-record deal with NAPALM RECORDS and immediately after that the band started the work on the album 'Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity)'. In late May 2000 T.T. left ABIGOR because of personal problems and differences with the other members. He was then replaced with Moritz Neuner on drums, who's already known of his professional work in various Austrian Metal bands. In August the same year the MCD 'In Memory...' was released. 'In Memory...' features the 2 cover-versions, the most unknown ABIGOR song 'Shadowlord', the first (yet unreleased) rehearsal version of 'Crimson Horizons' and a studio rough-mix of the song 'Verwüstung'. A tribute as well a collection of rare ABIGOR songs is what this MCD represents. From late October 2000 through January 2001 'Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity)' was recorded at Tonstudio Hörnix. 'Satanized' was released in March 2001, it's shows the band in it's already known, more traditional way - somewhere in the vein of 'Nachthymnen' and 'Verwüstung' (for example) - mixed with more new/stranger, as well refreshing elements and influences too, it's the blackness of the new eon! The current line-up is: Thurisaz - bass & vocals, Moritz - drums and myself on gutiars, synths & FX

SFM - Tell us the most recent about Abigor?

There aren't any latest news. I started to work on some ideas for new songs, but nothing really defined nor planed. We'll see how everything comes along, but currently we're all a bit lazy and do a break...

SFM - Is Abigor is a "Black Metal" band?

Of course!

SFM - How do You define the term "Black Metal"?

Extreme mental attitudes expressed through heavy music, so a symbiosis of spiritual values and music to create some kind of "valve" for the understanding - the transmition into the world we call reality.

SFM - What do You think of the "Black Metal" scene nowadays?

I don't care about it anymore. People might still proclaim ABIGOR as part of the Black-Metal scene, but personally I give a shit on it in which direction we're putted. We don't restrict nor set us any limits, in no way.

SFM - Why have You chosen the band name "Abigor"?

Because it's the demon of war, the most suitable name for the bands values and spirit behind it.

SFM - What is Your favourite Abigor album/song?

Currently it's "Nocturnal Stardust" of the new album "Satanized". Simply because it's very personal and deals with experiences I had within the "Underworld".

SFM - How do You compare
Abigor several years ago to the present one?

As we developed as individuals we developed the music that defines ABIGOR. Time changes, but currently I guess we've re-powered the old values and spirit behind ABIGOR, so we're still the dark force we used to be since 1993.

SFM - What bands have been an influence for You?

The old shit like SLAYER, CARNIVORE, SABBAT, because I grew up with these bands, but I wouldn't see them as conscious influence at all. It's more a kind of inspiration I get through all that Metal I listen to.

SFM - Your best bands...

IN FLAMES, ENSLAVED, FUNERAL MIST, MYSTICUM, CARDINAL SIN, AT THE GATES, DEICIDE, old SLAYER, SABBAT, old METALLICA, new MAYHEM, PUISSANCE, DEFTONES, GOD DETHRONED, ...

SFM - Have You played any other bands before Abigor?

Not really. Back in 1989 we played the first time togehter, thus means with Thomas our ex-drummer, this time the band was named "In-Sin", then "To-Mega-Therion" but we splited after a few month. We met again in 1993 and formed ABIGOR then.

SFM - And how did you discover metal and the underground personally? What your parents and familly tell about your "hobbies"... Is it hobby or pure way of your life? How does it looking, please share with me....

I can't remember, one day I bought a few LP's and started to listen to the 80's Metal, and that was the beginning. I won't tell you about my interessts beside ABIGOR and my wife and daughter, I mean that's too personal!

SFM - How important is the image of Abigor? Will You use face-paint?

I don't care about images! Why should we?! Of course we still use corpse-paint too, but why the hell do 90% of the people judge us because of some photos in the booklets?! Read our lyrics, listen to our music, try to understand, do you really think this mortal shell are we?!

SFM - Will You tell us some Your touring plans for this year?

As we haven't played live throughout all the years, we won't play live in 2001 as well!

SFM - Tell us who is an author of Your lyrics and what does they refer to?

Currently I write all the lyrics, but Thurisaz changes them mostly a bit, anyways. They deal with differnt topics, from the typical Satanic themes, to the collapse of stars and the obliteration of mankind, visions, dreams, experiences I had during my Occult studies, simply all imaginations I get through this life!

SFM - Are You inspirated by Satanism, Mythology, Occultism, Legends....

Yes, because I am very interessted in all the mention topics.

SFM - What kind of movies, books do You like too watch, read. Is there any genre that`s Your favourite?

Mostly I watch Horror-Movies, but I like some Si-Fi stuff too, or even Natural Born Killers is great, that really differs, the same goes for books. I read everything I like, from Phantasy to the Time-Sapce-Theories.

SFM - Best memories?

Can't remember.

SFM - Worst experiences?

That Thomas ripped our friendship and betrayed us over 2 ½ years because of his drug abuse...

SFM -. Live & Death?

Life's a fucked up experience that'll lead us into death, maybe a more worst experience then life?!

SFM - Love&Hate?

The most greatest and most powrfull experiences that makes life worth living, because which emotion can replace abysmal hate and scorn, or even love it's all special that one needs for an existence, to grow, to learn to set goals and make the dream of the apokalypse come true!

SFM - What do You want get to know after death?

Nothing. I just hope I won't be reborn.

SFM - What do You think about Black Metal scene (in Poland, Europe)?

As I said, I don't care about it.

SFM - What do You think about Europe, World?

Hard to say. I lost nearly all interest in politics the actual world themes, and everything that concern our daily life. I search for freedom and inner harmony, the world can colapse and all humans die, that would be the best in my opinion.

SFM - Tell us a few sentences about future of Abigor?

"Warmachine 2002" is the next release we start to work on but that's it so far.

SFM - Thanx!!! The last word belong to You...

Thanx for your support! Check out "Satanized" and face the demon unchained!
