In the year 1999 I -Mactabilis-
started the one man project Frozen Cries. First under the name
Mordor. But when it was discovered that there was another band with
that name I changed the name to Frozen Cries, witch is the bands
name today...
In the end of 2000 beginning of 2001 I, and a guy named Ole Morten (now
a member of Grimnorth) rehearsed some of the songs for Frozen Cries.
Ole Morten was then the drummer. I was in the Norwegian army at that
time, and since I soon was finished there, Ole Morten could not be
the permanent drummer. In March/April 2001, Lord Sorgroth was asked
if he would like to do the drums for the band. And we started as a
duo 15.May 2001.
Two months later we decided to release “Glacialis Infinitas”.
This was a rehearsal demo with VERY nerco sound. Only about one
month later we decided to record a new demo, since there was so low
quality on “Glacialis Infinitas”. The new demo named “Ancient
– demo 2001” included the same songs as “Glacialis Infinitas”
+ one new song. We got quite good feedback on the new demo, and
decided to look for more members so that they could be a complete
band.
In October-November 2001 Vehementor joined to do the 2nd guitar. And
some time where used to teach him the songs and for him to be a part
of the band. Some new songs where written in this period.
In January 2002 we decided to record a new demo. It should record
all the old songs and 3 new songs. But due to some problems in the
record process we only recorded the new songs and one of the old
songs.
In February 2002 our bass player Hjarandr joined. Finally Frozen
Cries was a complete band. He’s a skilled and good bass player.
In March 2002 Frozen Cries did a support gig for Extol, in Bergen (Norway).
It was the first time live for the band together, so it was great to
hear that the audience liked what we where doing on stage. Rumours
say that more people where coming to see Frozen Cries, than was
coming to see Extol. (It was Extol members themselves who said that)
Then some time later we had some more songs finished, and decided to
record them, and all the old songs, since we never really thought
the old recordings where good enough. Right before the recordings
was finished Lord Sorgroth decided to leave Frozen Cries. He was not
into black metal anymore, so it was best for him and the band that
he quit.
So we used some time to find a new drummer. Then Vassago came up. He
is a very good drummer, and has a long experience within the black
metal scene here in Bergen. He played with Ancient and Aeternus in
the early days.
Frozen Cries decided to not continue on the project about
re-recording all the old song, but recorded a 5-track demo, which
could be used to promote the band and get some reviews in magazines
etc. The demo was recorded in June 2002 and is named “Echoes of
Solitude – demo 2002”.
Vehementor quit Frozen Cries early September. There are no bad blood
or misunderstandings between him and the band. Frozen Cries has
decided to continue as a trio at the moment.
