PREVIEW TRAILERS
To promote the upcoming stories the BBC had
trailers made that would show footage from episode one of the following serial,
usually because episode one was the only installment
completed at the time. However some trailers often featured specially filmed
material for a particular serial. Below is a list of trailers I have managed to
track down, however it should be pointed out that this list is far from
complete – if a story isn't mentioned here it doesn't necessarily mean it
didn't have a trailer.

DETAILS: Shown immediately after the end credits faded on The Faceless Ones 6, this
trailer showed Jamie and the Doctor chasing the Tardis being driven off in the
lorry, stopping out of breath. A male announcer says 'Next week, Doctor Who
begins a new adventure..' Dialogue between Doctor and Jamie discussing the loss
of the Tardis. There was also footage of the Dalek materializing from the end
of The Evil of the Daleks 1. The trailer ends with the title card and the time,
5.15.
SERIAL: The Tomb of the Cybermen (Season Five)

DETAILS: The week before the serial aired, a special preview tape showed close
ups of several cybermats scuttling from the right to
left on a grey studio floor. This footage was specially filmed and did not
appear in the serial. It was played out on videotape and came with a voice
over: "Next week Doctor Who faces a new threat in the form of the deadly Cybermats". The title 'DOCTOR WHO - 5.15' then appeared
before fading to black.

DETAILS: A film sequence showing the Doctor's trio walking along a beach was
shown. This was followed by the Doctor examining the pipeline and hearing a
heart beat. The heart beat remained over a shot of waves crashing in on the
shore, as it appeared at the beginning of episode 1. 'DOCTOR WHO - 5.15' was
faded at the bottom of the shot of the waves, which faded to black.

DETAILS: After a shot of the wheel spinning in space, we had a sequence where a
solarized cyber silhouette is seen materialising inside the egg. The preview
ended on the hand emerging from the egg, with a voice over identifying the Cybermen.

going into close up of a quarks head as it loomed up over a hill top (film
stock). The trailer acted as a season preview rather than an introduction to
