Magique

Welcome to Magique's web page! Our names are Alex, Colleen, and Sophie, but mostly Colleen, 'cause I programmed the page.

We got started on magic back in seventh grade when we joined the Magic Club, which is the best thing that we have done so far in school. The Magic Club is just for seventh graders, and is taught by Vince Mancuso, who is also a science teacher. He used to be a professional magician. If you would like to see the Magic Club website, click here.

Every year the Magic Club puts on a large-illusion show. We do some of the same tricks and illusions that professionals like David Copperfield and The Pendragons do. Actually Mr. Mancuso knows some of these people. Cool, huh?

Anyway, half of the proceeds from the show go to a selected charity, and the other half go toward the next show, since Mr. Mancuso has to build and paint a lot of props and equipment for it. He puts so much time into it. We owe the entire success of the show to him. Go Mr. Man!

The year we did the show it was called Beyond Belief (there's a different name every year) and we donated $940 to the Make-a-Wish foundation. For more information on the Make-a-Wish Foundation, click here.

We learned a lot from the show, not just about magic, but that practice, hard work, and dedication pay off in the end. We really miss the magic show!

But we did get a lot out of the club, too. We learned a lot of small, close up magic tricks. In Magic Club we call this kind of magic "street magic." Street magic is most effective if performed for individuals, one at a time, rather than for large groups on a stage.

In the magic show we had a street magic video that was shown. We were filmed walking around school and asking random people if they wanted to see magic tricks, and then performing them.

Our beginning was when Soph's neighbor, who had seen the show, asked us to come and perform magic at a party for her friend. It was mostly adults at the party, although there were a couple younger kids. Street magic was the kind of magic we performed. Throughout the time we were there, we walking around showing people magic tricks.

Our rates:
We charge ten dollars per person, per hour. We would like to raise money for an organization, though, so if you would like to add some onto that we would be glad to direct it toward a charitable organization that we have chosen and are trying to raise awareness of.
If you are already organizing an event for a good cause, we would be happy to come for free.
