Today we would go home! We were so anxious to see the kids! Our flight was to leave Atlanta at 10:00 am and be in Des Moines at 11:30. With all of the tornadoes in the Atlanta area the day before and the blizzards in other parts of the country, many of the flights had been cancelled on Friday. There were a lot of people stranded in the airport and the flights were overbooked. They kept asking for people to volunteer to stay overnight for the next flight - but no one was interested. They then announced that they were just going to start randomly bumping people off. I was so worried that we would get bumped off and we had so many people planning on meeting us at the airport. They finally started boarding the plane an hour late. People were jamming up around the gate because nobody wanted to be the one made to stay behind. Then they announced that those with babies could board first. What a relief!! We would make it home!! The flight went fine and soon we were coming down the escalators to the area that held families waiting for travelers getting off the planes. What a group we had waiting! I think there were about 30 people and we had just had a blizzard the day before!

for us at the airport
We really appreciate people coming out. It was a lot of fun to have you there. A special thanks to our good friend, Jodie, for videotaping the whole event for us. She had done that for Marissa and was sweet enough to volunteer to capture this moment for us again with Elyana.
Elyana did great with everyone around her. She was especially intrigued by our son, Justin's, auburn hair. Every time he would get near she would happy scream, smile and grab a handful!
She got to meet most of her cousins and aunts and uncles at the airport. Of course her grandparents were there with cameras flashing!

My sister has been able to come home when 5 of my kids were born/came home but she had moved to Washington, DC with her family. I knew she wouldn't be able to make it this time. My sister-in-law, Shannon, who is such a help with keeping the kids, was also out of town so they were not at the airport.
About an hour after we got home I got a call that Shannon had flown in on an earlier flight and wanted to come out and see Elyana. I thought it was so sweet of her to come straight from the airport. About 5 minutes after she came in, my sister walked in the door!
My sister, Stacy, surprised me
and flew in on Saturday!
That was a really great surprise and I appreciate so much her flying out here! It meant so much - thanks Sis!
Thanks Scott and Carol for getting the balloons and getting all my kids to the airport. I am sure that the last 24 hours they were bouncing off the walls. You deserve a medal! Thanks to Rhonda, Carol and Mom Reid for the pictures. We were so busy talking to everyone that we didn't get any taken. Thanks Mom VanderHart for the huge family dinner on Sunday. It was nice to spend some time with everyone and not have to cook!
Elyana is doing wonderful. The kids are crazy about her and don't give her a moment to herself.
The BIG sister, Marissa
She is so happy to be a BIG sister now!
She doesn't seem to mind being the center of attention and the princess of the family. She has such an expressive face and has NO trouble letting you know she is unhappy with what you are doing or not doing. We simply adore her and can't imagine life without her. We feel so blessed to be given the opportunity to have her in our lives. Thanks so much for sharing our journey to Elyana. Your love and support have meant the world to us!
