APRIL 8th, 2007
EASTER SUNDAY
Today she looked at Kyle and said "Dada." These moments always happen in public where I can't have a good cry. The best I can do is water-up a little . Our morning began with our traditional Easter egg scavenger hunt which is normally to find the Easter basket.

Sydney's Annual Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt

No basket this year but I did bring some bunny ears along with the eggs...

I bought some candy here that I thought looked good. It wasn't overly but Syd liked it and appreciated the effort. Kyle bought Syd a jade necklace and put it in an egg for her.

Lydia has fallen into an eating pattern. She takes about 3-4oz of formula when she wakes up and when she goes to bed. For breakfast she enjoys vanilla yogurt and French toast. She has baby food for lunch and dinner... fruits and veggies. We haven't tried meats. She has completely taken to crackers and cookies. A lot of the snacks we have bought are kind of bland and are great for babies. We bought some chips today. They are in a Pringles-type can and we thought they were cheese flavored. Turns out they are Kimchi flavored. They taste just like you are imagining .

We went to the Guangdong Folk Art Museum this morning...

They had amazing ivory carvings and some neat dimensional paintings...

The gardens were very pretty...

The highlight of this trip for me was meeting a group of schoolchildren taking a tour. We talked to a group of girls who were 9-, 10-, and 11-years-old. They spoke English and were excited to talk to us. They were very friendly and sweet. They asked to have their picture taken with Sydney and me. Kyle snapped one, too...

The boys were making peace signs and bunny ears and acting, in general, like all boys do all around the world. Very fun! That reminds me, I've forgotten to mention how people snap our picture all the time or position themselves behind us and take a picture. It's pretty funny.

We got to go to the Carrefour store again today. We only had 45 minutes so we had to do a quick sweep again. We went to the toy department because I want to get Lydia an Asian baby doll. I was very shocked to see that all the dolls... Barbies, babies... are Caucasian! I don't understand that. Every little girl should have a doll that looks like her. Maybe they get them somewhere else or maybe they don't have dolls??

After our outing the whole family took naps. Sunday afternoon naps are great world-wide . It's been a pretty quiet day... not much to tell. Sydney went swimming. I think she's going to be very cold but I gave in. Lydia is still sleeping.

Syd in the pool. As you can see
there is no one else there!
The water was very cold

The weather is still a little chilly. It's probably in the 60s°F. We were told that this is what winter is like here. I could live with winters like this. I talked with a young woman yesterday who is from here and has never seen snow. She said she saw it on TV once or twice and would like to travel sometime and experience snow.

Love, Carmen, Kyle, Sydney and Lydia
