Tandy Branham: Orchard Alarm

Tournament Results: 3rd-4th Place 4-1-1

The night before this FNM I throw together my old Orchard Alarm deck that gave me my infamous 0-3 drop in one of the most important tournaments that Cavalier Comics has ever had. I feel that the deck should have done better, so I opt to go with it again to regain the respect it deserves. Also, my mind was more focused on the PTQ I would be attending the day after this FNM, so I really didn't feel like finding a new deck, haha.

Round 1: Jonah Robinette playing CRAZY ELVES! Err... Mono Green Beats! 2-0

Game 1: I always LOVE playing this little guy because he makes me laugh more than anyone else. I don't know if it's his extreme arrogance or the trash talking, but either way he cracks me up. I have to explain every little thing so that he understands how the combo works, but what is impressive is that he actually DOES understand... I think when Jonah gets a bit older he will be a very good player even if he does have Shawn Mutter and Seth as playtesting partners, lol. Game 2: I go off before I die again... not that hard actually, but he does manage to destroy a lifespark spellbomb and slow me down a turn.

Round 2: Jody from G2K playing Red Sligh 2-0

Game 1: I see history repeat itself with a red deck packing main deck vulshock sorcerers, luckily for me I get the combo off and manage to get enough mana floating to play kumano and use his ability to kill the sorcerer before it kills me. Game 2: Here comes the stupid sorcerer again, but this time I have my trusty Echoing Truth to use before I go off, yay me. I hadn't seen Jody in what felt like forever, so it was good to catch up on things, he's a really cool guy.

Round 3: Brian Smith playing RG Kiki Control 2-1

Game 1: I go off turn 4 before he can get anything going... Game 2: He extracts my Spellbomb the turn before I go off, lucky him... I still have my Natural Affinity in the deck, so I think I still have a chance, but he swarms me rather quickly, so I die. Game 3: I go off turn 4 again, and manage to give Brian his only loss on his way to winning the tournament, good job Brian.

Round 4: Trav playing affinity, 1-1 draw

We decide to draw, but play it out anyway to see who woulda won. Trav beat me rather hadily. There was one game where I went off but he was holding 2 Ebolts in hand, so I get stopped, lol. Good thing I took the draw haha.

Top 8: John playing White Weenie 2-1

Game 1: John Boy slaughters me game 1 with 2 Kami of Ancient law preventing me from going off, I couldn't dig down to the Echoing truth in time to win, so he takes game 1. Game 2: I go off on turn 4 with 2 Orchards in play and Natural Affinity turning all lands into critters, I think he had an Otherworldly Journey but with 2 Orchard critters I still go off. Game 3: I get the sideboarded Dosan into play and go off with his instant enchantment removal in hand. I was very lucky this match, because John had SOOO many answers to me! Good game John Boy.

Top 4: Jody Webb playing affinity 1-2

Game 1: I know affinity is just too fast for a defenseless deck, so I try my best to be quick, and it doesn't work. Game 2: I get a GOD draw and go off turn 3. Game 3: He kills me before I do anything, and I didn't see any of my Oxidizes to slow him down in time for me to go off... I can't wait til affinity gets the axe!!!

Overall I was very happy with this FNM. The entire Top 4 was Team Wiseguy and I think 5 or 6 of the Top 8 were Wiseguys, so GREAT JOB GUYS! And Congrats to Brian for his first tourney win since his comeback, about time you dusted that dirt off ya shouldas!
