Drop an egg in a pan of cool, salted water to
tell
if it's fresh or not. If the egg sinks -
it's
fresh, if it floats to the surface - throw it
away.
Cooking steaks & chops - Slash the edges of
fat on
steaks & chops at 1 inch intervals to keep
the meat
from curling while it's cooking.
To keep celery at it's freshest: wrap in
aluminum
foil before putting it in the refrigerator.
Magazine recycling - take the magazines
you've
already read to a local nursing home for the
residents to read and use for crafts. Often
mens
magazines are in high demand as well as ones
by the
Reiman Publications (Birds & Blooms, Taste of
Home,
Reminiscing etc).
Boiling eggs: Add a tsp of salt to the water
before
hard boiling eggs to help prevent cracked
shells.
Like to try new recipes? - keep 2 recipe
box's. One
for "tried & true favorites" and one for
"recipes to
try". This helps to keep your recipes more
organized.
Candles - your candles will burn longer if
you store
them in the refrigerator prior to using them.
To
make cleaning the wax out of candleholders
easier
try putting them in the freezer an hour
before
cleaning. (Party-Lite candles leave very
little wax
in the holders, they may cost a little more
but they
last longer, smell better and the entire
candle
burns!)
To make your whole house smell good - pour
some
vanilla & water in a saucepan. Add cinnamon
sticks,
cloves, & fruit peelings (or dried oranges,
grapefruit etc). Bring to a boil then turn
down to
low & let it simmer. You can also add other
favorite spices to this to add a little
variety to
the scent.
Dropping a peeled potato into a dish that you
have over-salted will help to absorb some of
the excess salt.
You are listening to: The Wind Beneath My
Wings
This page is dedicated to my parents for all
the
help they have given me along the pathway of
life.
When children are young they tend to do
things their
own way, instead of listing to mom & dad's
wisdom.
I'd like for my parents to know that I was
listening, I just didn't put some of it to
use til I
became an adult!! *S*
