PSALM 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I believe I was about 16 years old when I really thought about what Psalm 23 meant. I was helping to care for an elderly lady who wanted the Psalm 23 recited to her when she was ill. I repeated it over & over in my head to make sure that I had every word memorized. I'll always be thankful to her for leading me Psalm 23.

PSALM 121

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

This was my Gram's favorite Psalm.

Did you know there is a verse in the Bible which has been translated into more than 1100 languages? The verse is:

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

A BAG OF JELLY BEANS IS MORE THAN JUST AN EASTER TREAT!

RED is for the blood He gave
GREEN is for the grass He made
YELLOW is for His sun so bright
ORANGE is for the edge of night
BLACK is for the sins we made
WHITE is for the grace He gave
PURPLE is for His hours of sorrow
PINK is for our new tomorrow

A bag of jelly beans colorful and sweet, is a prayer, a promise and a special treat.

A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town, their two young sons were in some way involved. The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons' behavior. The mother had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak with the clergyman. The husband said, "We might as well. We need to do something before I really lose my temper!" The clergyman agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them individually. The 8 year old went to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer. So the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face, "WHERE IS GOD?" At that the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home, slamming himself in the closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and said, "What happened?" The younger brother replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it."

THE GIFT

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, and somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angry, he rose his voice to his father and said "with all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matthew 7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?" As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealers name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words PAID IN FULL. How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

EMBROIDERY

When I was a little boy, my mother used to embroider   a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up   from the floor and ask what she was doing. She informed   me that she was embroidering.
From the underside, as I watched her work within the   boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in   her hand, I complained to her that it sure looked   messy from where I sat.
She would smile at me, look down and gently say, "My   son, you go about your playing for a while and, when   I am finished, I will put you on my knee and let you   see it from my side."
I would wonder why she was using some dark threads   along with the bright ones and why they seemed so   jumbled from my view.
A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother's   voice say, "Son, come and sit on my knee."
This I would do, only to be surprised and thrilled   to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not   believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy.
Then Mother would say to me, "My son, from underneath   it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize   that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a   design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my   side and you will see what I was doing."
Many times through the years I have looked up to my   Heavenly Father and said, "Father, what are You doing?"
He has answered, "I am embroidering your life."
I say, "But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so   jumbled. The threads seem so dark. Why can't they   all be bright?"
The Father seems to tell me, "My child, you go about   your business of doing My business, and one day I will   bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you will   see the plan from My side."

To Each His Own

I cannot change the way I am,
    I never really try,
God made me different and unique,
    I never ask him why.

        If I appear peculiar,
    There's nothing I can do,
You must accept me as I am,
    As I've accepted you.

God made a casting of each life,
    Then threw the old away,
Each child is different from the rest,
    Unlike as night from day.

        So often we will criticize,
    The things that others do,
But, do you know, they do not think,
The same as me and you.

So God in all his wisdom,
Who knows us all by name,
He didn't want us to be bored,

That's why we're not the same
