Howdy everyone.I'm back with my column. It's about time too. It's been exactly three months since I debut my last column.Anywho, this week,I'll be talking and possbibly review "Oops I Did It Again."
It was the 16th of May.The new album had just arrived and I decided to pick up a copy of one. When I first listened to it,I wasn't too surprised.I expected this album to be a lot better than the first one.Even though I'm a Britney fanatic,I have to admit that her first album really sucked.I wasn't too fond of some of those songs on "...Baby One More Time". For example,I hated "Email my Heart" and "Born to Make You Happy". The new album however, has more of a dance/techno/dance/pop beat to it.
The songs here are a lot better than the ones on her previous album. To name a few,"Oops I Did It Again" and "Stronger" are great upbeat dance songs.Britney also displays her bad girl side with "What U See(Is What U Get)" and "Satisfaction". She covered the Rolling Stones hit of "Satisfaction" and she does a damn fine job.Britney adds a touch of bad girl and tough girl in that song and that is the best song on the album.
However, there are other songs that didn't appeal to me.I didn't like some of the love ballads that were on the album."Lucky" and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" are adequete love songs.Don't be surprise if the latter of those two is her second single of the album."One Kiss From You" and "When Your Eyes Say It" are,I have to admit it,the worse songs on the album. There not that bad, but it doesn't even compare to the other songs.Maybe its just me, but I just like her upbeat songs a lot better than her love ballads.
Britney did contribute to co-writing one of the songs on the album. The song "Dear Diary" is about a girl(possibly Britney) being afraid to ask this guy out.I don't know if I would constitute this as a song because the title basically describes what it actually is,she's reading(or writing her diary). The song(or poem,or whatever it is) is not that bad, although I really wished that if Britney wrote songs on her own,it would sound more like a song.
Is this album bad,no.Is it better than the first one,oh hell yeah! This is a pretty good album considering I rarely listen to pop music. My only complaints about the album is that it is dominated by love ballads.I hope that in her third album that she has more upbeat/dance songs like "Oops". The other complaint that I have to pick with is the lack of songs.I wish she would really add more songs to her album. She only had 12 in this album and 11 in her first. She should really consider adding at least 15 on future albums.Other than that, the album is pretty good and I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Now moving on beyond the album itself is how popular it will do.At first,I had doubts that the album would do as good as her first one.But after looking at the recent Billboard Charts,I guess I'm wrong. If you haven't heard,"Oops" sold 1.32 million copies. That's the second highest amount of albums sold in a week right behind Nysnc and ahead of the Backstreet Boys. With those numbers,Britney holds the record as the highest single week gross by a single artist beating Garth Brooks. From the numbers,it looks like the album will do real well, although there's a chance that her number one reign will fall this week with the release of the new Eminem album.Only time will tell.
I guess that wraps up this week's column.I'll try to update the column more than once every three months, but I can't guarentee it.Anywho, see you next week.
