Group Size: Rage from 1-3 and 1-15. Sometimes they are found groups of 100 or more.

Behavior: This rapid swimmer is usually active on or above the surface of the water. They breach frequently, usually several times in a row. Sometimes they can be found swimming upside down and spinning underwater. The Commerson Dolphin dives for about 15 to 20 seconds. They often ride bow waves and will swim alongside or behind ships. Sometimes they are found swimming with Peale’s Dolphin, Black Dolphins, and Burmeister’s Porpoises.

Where to look for Commerson’s Dolphins: Southern South America, including the Falkland Islands, and Kerguelen Island in the Indian Ocean.

Calves: At birth they are gray, black, and brown. As they grow and mature, they will develop a subdued black and gray coloring, which will then turn a starky black and white when they become an adult.

Diet: They eat fish that are in schools and bottom-dwelling invertebrates.

Habitat: Inshore waters
