1. DOCTOR OF MEDICINE (MD)
Eligibility: 2 alternatives
A) Applicants must have at least two principal level passes one of which must be at a level of D or above in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology Mathematics attained in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (National Form VI) or its equivalent OR
B) Applicants who are holders of Medical Assistant/clinical officers diploma/certificates, Diploma in Nursing or Dental Assistant, who have credit passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics at the Ordinary Level Certificate of Secondary Education (National Form IV or its equivalent) and a minimum working experience of 2 years.
Course duration: 5 years
2. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN:
1.1Obstetrics and Gynaecology
1.2 Paediatrics and Child Health
Eligibility: This programme is open to candidates who hold MD degree or its equivalent and who have completed internship in their respective countries
Course duration: 12 months
3. MASTER OF MEDICINE (M.MED) IN:
1.3Internal Medicine
1.4 Paediatrics and Child Health
1.5 Obstetrics and Gynaecology
1.6 Surgery
Eligibility: This programme is open to candidates who are holders of MD degrees or MBCHB degrees or their equivalent, with an interest in the intended specialization. Applicants should have experience of at least one year as general duty medical officer after completion of internship.
Course duration: 3 years.
4. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (B.Sc. Nursing)
Eligibility: 2 alternatives
A) Applicants must have completed Form VI or its equivalent, with at least two Principal Passes one of which must be at a level of D or above in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics. Course duration: 3 years plus one-year internship (4th year) carried out in an approved teaching hospital. OR
B) Applicants must have completed Form IV (ordinary level Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent) with at least 3 credit passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, with a Diploma in Nursing, registered by the Nurse's Councils of their respective countries with at least a working experience of two years in a recognised hospital.
Course duration: 2 years plus one year internship (3rd year) carried out in an approved teaching hospital
5. UPGRADING DIPLOMA COURSE IN NURSING
Eligibility: This programme is open for candidate holders of section B Nurse/Nurse Midwife Certificate with a minimum working experience of 2 years in a recognised hospital with a positive recommendation from immediate employer.
FEE FOR THE YEAR 2000/2001
Tuition fees for MD and BScN is $4470
Tuition fee for postgraduate courses is $6773
Tuition fee for diploma in nursing is $1351
Accommodation is $1200
a). Tuition fee may be paid in two equal installments i.e. at the beginning of each Semester.
b). Once fee is paid, it can not be refunded.
c). Fees may be paid in US$ or TShs converted on the current dollar rate.
d). The University has limited accommodation, thus priority will be given to disabled and foreign students.
NOTE: In addition to above conditions, candidates applying for any of the above-mentioned courses must pass the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University Entrance Examination.
