To The Desert and Beyond

The Sahara's soft orange sand begs to be travelled on. My friends and I arranged to spend a night there, under the stars- of which multitudes I scarcely believed existed- and watched the sun rise over the dunes the following morning. Outstanding.

A Bumpy Ride

Camels are obviously necessary to navigate the dunes, but I was unprepared for the amount of jostling involved and the balance required to stay on one. Ours were rather serene though, and we all arrived with little more than sore bottoms. (outside Merzouga, Morocco, 1999)

The Orange Tide

Looking out into the desert is the most beautiful nothingness I've seen. The motionless sand extends for an infinity all around you, and the thought of returning to civilization is a sinking feeling. (Outside Merzouga, May 1999)
