These porpoises are only found in shallow waters off the coast of South
America. On the Atlantic side, they range from Uraguay south to Patagonia, Argentina. On the
Pacific side they are from Valvida, Chile, north up to Bahia de Paita, Peru.

Very little is known about this species.
The groups in which they travel in are very small. The groups usually consist of three animals.
Many are trapped in nets purposely for use as bait and food. Some are however accidently caught in gill nets.
