Title: Temptations, by Otis Williams

Stars: *** (3 stars)

Review: Great book on the history of the Temptations. Discusses Otis's life, his thoughts, and the music industry. Contains profanity, and Otis Williams gives too much information about every single woman he was involved with. Looking at it from Eddie's, David's, and Dennis's point of view, it isn't exactly fair. Doesn't go into detail about the personalities of all the Temptations. Should contain more pictures of Otis's family.

Title: Dreamgirl--My Life As A Supreme

Stars: ***** (5 stars)

Review: Mary Wilson very effectively talks about life at Motown and life in the girl group at the top of the heap. Hers is a touching story filled with drama, humor, ingenuity, and honesty. She speaks of Motown and fame objectively. I highly recommend.

Title: Temptations by Ted Cox

Stars: *** (3 stars)

Review: I liked this book. It had alot of information about the Temptations. It didn't have alot of pictures of the Temptations though. But other then that I thought it was great. As a fan though I hated to read that Eddie Kendricks and Otis fought alot. But overall It was great!

Title: Inside My Life by Smokey Robinson with David Ritz

Stars: ***** (5 stars)

Review: Smokey Robinson tells his story with candor, wit, and humor. He tells the good and the bad, and he does something most autobiographers don't do: Self Examination and Criticism. He acknowledges his bad choices and faults in this book, and shares them with his audience, making his life literally an open book. This book is a must for any Motown fan, seeing that Smokey Robinson (along with HDH) is one of the most critical pillars of the Motown infrastructure and the Motown sound. He tells about how he came up with some of the beautiful pieces he came up with and how he has coped over the years seeing friends laid to rest. In addition the pictures of Smokey, one of the most handsome cats are stunning. He and Claudette made such a cute couple.

Title: Call Her Miss Ross, by J. Randy Tarraborrelli

Stars: ***** (5 stars)

Review: I absolutely loved this book!!! Well written and accurate, too. I know Ms. Ross objected to the publication of this book because it was the actual story of what really happened with the Supremes, even though the book also showed her little known benevolent side as well. And some of the situations described in the book had me LMAO!!!! If you're a Diana Ross fan, or if she's someone you love to hate, you will love this book!!!!

Title: Deliver Us From Temptation

Stars: *** (3 stars)

Review:I felt that Mr. Turner, in some parts, mrely paraphrased other books on the Temptations and he tried to pass it on as first hand knowledge. Althought this is supposed to be Temptations book as indicated by its title, he subtitles it as "The Story of Motown". He discusses other acts and his experiences in the begining chapters and it makes the book somewhat fragmented. Mr. Turner's bias shows as well-he clearly does not like Otis. I did enjoy his personal accounts of Motown family members and his personnel account of David, Dennis and Eddie and their tour right before David died. This part of former Tempts history is usually not known as these singers faded into the background after their stint with the Tempts. Finally, Mr. Turner's refernces to his sexual prefernce are strewn in and out of his narrrative. One wonders if this is really necessary.
