These whales are found only in temperate to artic North Atlantic waters. They prefer deep water and the ice edge.

They are found in groups of 4 to 10, occasionally more. Pairs and single whales are commonly found.

Females will have a calf every 2 to 3 years.

These whales are deep sea divers.

The Northern Bottlenose Whale can stay underwater for more than an hour.

They are rarely found in shallow waters.

They will not desert or leave a hurt whale of their own kind until it dies.

This whale eats squid, but will also eat pelagic fish and rarely but sometimes sea stars.

They live for about 37 years.

Strandings of this whale occasionally occur.
