Newborns: 5.5 feet

Adults: (Long-finned males) 20 feet

(Short finned males) 17 feet

(Long-finned females) 17 feet

(Short-finned females) 14 feet

Weight: (Long-finned males) 6,600 lbs

(Long-finned females) 5,500 lbs

Location:

(Long-finned)Found in cold temperate waters of the North Atlantic and southern hemispheres.

(Short-finned)Only found in the tropical and warm temperate waters.

In case you didn't know:

Pilot whales are second in size to only the Killer Whale (or Orca).

They swim in pods with 10 to 50 whales. Although there has been a pod spotted with 250 animals.

Pilot Whales eat squid, cod and other types of fish.

These whales will dive in depths of 1/2 mile in search of food.

The flippers are 1/5 of the body length on the (Long-Finned) Pilot Whale.

A female Pilot Whale has a calf every 3 years.

These whales do not ride bow waves.

Different types of dolphins can be found in or close to Pilot Whale groups.

In captivity they are very quick learners.

The Pilot Whale will strand its self or in groups of several whales.

This animal lives for about 40 to 50 years.
