Wallaceburg Minor Baseball Asociaion has some new exciting news this summer for kids who are interested in learning the aim of baseball, or honing their skills. Two local students have been hired by WMBA, through the Summer Careers Placement Program. Natalie Ranghel and Dorothy Myers have been working out the details on a program to provide education and fun through a Baseball Day Camp in Wallaceburg.
According to Myers and Ranghel, the focus of the camp will be on introducing young players to the game, while helping them to develop baseball skills, and a love for the sport, with the targeted age group being 6 to 10 years of age. Instructions will be provided for all players as well as games and contests, all aimed at teaching kids the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, catching, base running and fielding. Them camp will be held at King George Park on Nelson Street and is scheduled to be held in 2 sessions. The first session is from July 16-27 with the second session being held from August 13-24. The sessions will run half days from Monday through Friday with a wind up barbeque on the final day.
Rangel and Myers will be visiting the area schools over the next couple of weeks, in order to introduce themselves to the kids and to promote the program.
Registration will take place at the Country Fair Mall on Wednesday, June 27 from 6-8pm Friday, July 6 from 6-8 and Saturday, July 7 from 11am to 1pm. The cost per player is $35.00 which includes a t-shirt and a hat. Completed forms may be dropped off at any time at the Oak's Inn or the Chamber of Commerce office on Nelson Street.
