William, the duke of Normandy: 1048 to 1060
You and your men are disarmed and taken captives. Normandy is put under a regency: it is galling, but the regent chosen by king Henry is your uncle William of Talou. After spending a period of time at the French court as a political lever to keep Talou in check, king Henry allows you to take lordship of a minor holding on the border with your cousin Guy of Burgundy, where you spend the rest of your life needling each other.
