Jim might be there at the US Comedy Arts festival!
They report there:

Another highlight from this year's USCAF will be the cast reunion from the groundbreaking variety series, "In Living Color". Believe it or not, it's been seven years since you've been able to hear movie reviews from "Men on Film", order some "hot" property off of the "Homeboy Shopping Network" or learn a lesson in fire fighting from "Fire Marshall Bill". So who knows what to expect when the cast of the Emmy Award winning variety series reunites for a night of lively panel discussion to reminisce about the good ol' days. Joining show creator Keenen Ivory Wayans on stage will be a few former cast members you might have heard of: Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, David Alan Grier, Tommy Davidson, Shawn and Marlon Wayans, Kim Coles, Kim Wayans and Jamie Foxx. Sorry, none of the Fly Girls RSVP'd in time. Acting as moderator for the event, will be MTV's one and only Carson Daly. Stay tuned to the USCAF web site for highlights of a reunion that's sure to get big laughs.

The festival takes place February 28 till March 4 2001 in Aspen.

You can still order a package for the 2001 Festival by calling the box-office at 1-800-778-4633.

MAN I wish I could go there! It's a FANTASTIC Festival with TONS of Stand up, from the celibs till the newbies. A Festival NOT TO MISS! View the scedulehere.

"Grinch" has Bigger Box-Office teeth than"Jaws"

The Grinch passed JAWS to take #13 on the all-time box office list. At http://movies.yahoo.com/hv/boxoffice/latest/rank.html you will note that The Grinch (ranked #48 for the week) has grossed $260,031,035 which puts it at the 13th position for all-time highest grossing films (U.S.) based on the figures at http://movies.yahoo.com/hv/boxoffice-alltime/rank.html.

The "Grinch" goes BAFTA award

Rick Baker and team continues to be acknowledged for "The Grinch". This time recognition comes from BAFTA. The Orange British Academy Film Awards were held on Feb. 25, 2001 at The Odeon Leicester Square in central London and "The Grinch", won in the category of Make Up/Hair (Rick Baker/Kazuhiro Tsuji/Tony G./Gal Ryan/Sylvia Nava).

Besides the already reported Oscar nods, "The Grinch" was also nominated for a Hollywood Make Up and Hairstylist Guild Award in the category of Feature Film - Special Effects Make Up, and for a Costume Designers Guild Award (Rita Ryack).

Winners will be, respectively, announced March 17 at the Century Plaza Hotel, and at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

"Majestic" to shoot at Mendocino village

The rumors about "The Majestic" also going to shoot at Mendocino have finally been confirmed. First, Howard was so kind enough as to let Jimcarreyonline know that a new casting call was going to take place this past weekend at Fort Bragg (Mendocino) and now SS, who attended the call, tells them when and where the Mendocino filming is going to occur:

«Fort Bragg, CA
Sunday Feb. 25th

Just went to an open call for extras, or "atmosphere" as they put it, for the new JC vehicle "The Majestic". They'll be filming in late March/early April for a few days in the historic village of Mendocino, 11 miles south of Fort Bragg on Hwy 1. They asked very specifically if I or anyone I knew had period musical instruments. It'll be interesting to see what that's about.»

-- With many Spank Yous to Howard Fites and SS for the Mendocino information.

Liz reports that If anyone missed JC's appearance on Rosie in November, it's going to be shown again on Thursday, March 1st.

so while jimcarreyonline hears the Ferndale scoop first, I try to spread the news...haha that's a pretty scray sight all those masks....

Ferndale gears up for "Majestic" production

Yes, it's another chock-full of details report by our Ferndale correspondent, including news on a rather unusual strategy to insure Jim Carrey's security:

A typical day in Ferndale?
A typical day in Ferndale?
«Ferndale was busy this week, as the local power company came and removed many street lamps in preparation for installing the Victorian style lamps for the filming of The Majestic.

On Wednesday the streets were busy with a large gang of movie people looking at the sets and the town, planning where they would lay cables and place lighting. They were quite a different breed from the local resident in Ferndale: many of them dressed in various shades of chic black, this one with an arty beret, that one carrying a heavy briefcase, many with clipboards or tiny cell phones.

They climbed inside the 'town hall' set which has completely surrounded the little US Bank building, and spent the afternoon looking at the theatre set close up and from across the street in front of the Ferndale Meat Company. What with the power company moving slowly up and down Main Street with their big equipment truck removing poles, and the usual construction, it was quite busy.

Meanwhile the diner set is preparing to come in to a spot being prepared at the end of Main Street.

There is some discussion about the movie company and Mr. Carrey feeling secure enough in this little town: so everybody here is disguising themselves as Jim Carrey. A cut-and-color mask of Jim's face was published in The Ferndale Enterprise this week. I guess nobody will know who the real Jim is, and he'll get lost in the crowd.

I talk to local people on the street, and I read all the local papers and watch local TV, and of course I also look out my window onto Main Street. Some of this information comes via the weekly Ferndale Enterprise; news is gathered, written and edited by Caroline Titus who does an award winning job as a writer, a seasoned newswoman and a civic leader. Juggling Majestic news and local stories is not easy and she does it spectacularly well. Me? I write novels, plays and theatre reviews: but Caroline lives and writes history at the oldest continuously published newspaper in California, founded in 1878. I could never do what she does.»

AICN sees some "Sand Pirates"

Moriarty over at AICN got the pleasure to spend some quality time with Frank Darabont, Bruce Campbell, Amanda Detmer and Cliff Curtis on the "Sand Pirates Of The Sahara" set. As you know, "Sand Pirates" is the movie written by Jim Carrey's character in "The Majestic".

Look what Juliette found at this page...

Finally, Schenkkan's writing an adaptation of his early play ``Heaven on Earth,'' a play Jim Carrey has long been interested in. The play's about the odd relationship between a faithless slacker and his religious grandmother. Based on factual historical events, this is the story of the lost and lonely British "home children" who were sent off to Canada in search of new homes and the love of a family. Unfortunately, many were disappointed.

I agree jimcarreyonline...this is ULTRACOOL SCOOP!

jimcarreyonline reports....

More on the casting call at Ferndale

According to an article from The Ferndale Enterprise (Feb. 8), and sent in by Web Correspondent Wesley Hofmann, response to the extras casting call was even bigger than previously reported. As Location Manager Rory Enke stated to the newspaper, by Monday the number of applicants was 2,000 and "still counting."

Regarding when applicants will know if they made it or not, Enke said that only closer to the actual shoot the results will be known. "When wardrobe comes to town, which is going to be a while, they'll get a call to be fitted. Right now it's a matter of filing all the applications and getting them to the casting person, who'll be looking at the pictures to see what is needed."

But a more unexpected participation in the movie may come from Ferndale's WWII veterans. As the newspaper reports, Meredith McCarthy, the assistant set decorator, is currently trying to obtain permission to use the veterans' WWII portraits in an "important" scene involving a display of the fictional town's war heroes in the drug store window. Enke explained the motive: "When we walked into their Veteran's Hall, from the the very first day, and we saw all those photos hanging on the wall... That's what this story is all about."

"The Majestic" continues to be slated for a March 5 production start at the Victorian Village of Ferndale.

can't thank jimcarreyonline enough for the news they keep reporting..like this...

"Majestic" to be a closed set

We really can't thank enough our Anonymous contributor from Ferndale for all the ultra cool details he has been sending us. Here's his latest report:

«We understand from local sources this week that the set for The Majestic will be 'closed'---Castle Rock apparently feels that too many fans might arrive in town to see Jim Carrey, so they will not be publicizing the shooting schedule. Even though this is a remote rural area, too many people might make the effort, so they are taking precautions.

There are ongoing discussions about how to accomplish the filming so it doesn't disrupt local business traffic---will residents here have to wear a badge to identify themselves?

We heard that local deliveries are being re-routed behind the shops and stores: in one case they said Castle Rock found a 1950's UPS truck that could be used by our local driver, who would just go about his usual duties---undoubtedly wearing long pants and a 50's bow tie!

Meanwhile I have heard that local accomodations have been secured for Jim Carrey (the unofficial word is that Castle Rock is paying $10,000 a month to a local family for the use of their house. That should buy a lot of groceries.)

The other theatre in town (we have a real movie theatre built in 1920) will be the site of a staging area for actors and extras during filming---but not used in actual filming itself: they are trying to find ways of disguising it so it doesn't look like a theatre, which might be confusing. Dressing trailers will be on the grounds of a local church.

The Majestic sets are coming along, despite cold weather this week: heavy snow covers the ridges just above town, although town is clear. The theatre set is very sturdily built: people are commenting that it looks like 'real' construction of a real building, with massive steel supports and solid looking walls. The first pieces of painted exterior are going on, today---pre-weathered, cracked and peeling paint will add to the character of the theatre set (which is later refurbished in the course of the story)---the diner set will be moving into town shortly, and the new Victorian style street lights will arrive next week: all of the current street light have been turned off and are ready to be removed, leaving downtown dark at night, illuminated only by work safety lights put up by Castle Rock.»

-- With a very special Spank You to Anonymous for the info.

New addition to "Majestic" cast

Amanda Detmer
Photo © Miramax
According to The Hollywood Reporter Amanda Detmer has just been added to "The Majestic" cast. She will play Jim Carrey's character Hollywood girlfriend, Sandra Sinclair.

Detmer is currently on screen in Columbia Pictures' "Saving Silverman" and has also appeared in "Boys And Girls", "Drop Dead Gorgeous" and "Final Destination".

JimCarreyonlinereports...

News on "The Majestic" casting call

The extras casting call for "The Majestic" was held last Friday and Saturday at Ferndale and at Eureka on Sunday and Monday. Over 600 people auditioned in the first couple of days and other 300 on Sunday. Everything went smoothly although more than 10 hours of work had to be done by the production crew just on Sunday. The extras hired will be used in crowd and atmosphere scenes.

Steve was really nice to offer us the details on the "Majestic" casting, which appeared in Eureka's local newspaper, The Times-Standard. Here's an excerpt of the article:

"...The potential extras had to show up dressed in 1950s-style clothing, if possible, fill out an application giving their contact information and tailor measurements. Then they went into the theater, had their picture taken, which was attached to their application. Next they got back in line and went upstairs to the balcony, where more photos were taken as well as video footage.

The applicants were of all ages and came from all over the county. Some women wore poodle skirts, prim white gloves and saddle shoes, while men slicked their hair back dressed in hipster suits with wide ties and suspenders. Others didn't dress up at all. Some people even brought pet dogs and one brought a parrot along. At one point a brass band showed up and did a rendition of 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.'"

-- With a big Spank You to Steve for The Times-Standard article and The Film Dude for the audition dates.

jimcarreyonline reports yet again...

Laurie Holden to co-star in "Majestic"

Laurie Holden
Photo from Starpages

S.A._JCFan & J.T. Carrey found out all the details on who's going to be Jim Carrey's co-star in "The Majestic".

According to Variety the oh-so-important role of Adele, the love interest of Peter Appleton, Jim Carrey's character, will be played by Laurie Holden.

This will be Holden's first lead in a feature film, although she appeared in some minor film roles and most notably as the X-Files recurring character, Marita Covarrubias.

In a comment to the newspaper, Darabont said, regarding Laurie Holden, that "How lucky are we to have found her to play Jim's long-lost love in this movie? She beat out a lot of people for this role, and I have to say I'm thrilled at the prospect of presenting a fresh face to the audience. I think she's going to capture a lot of hearts and blow people away."

Set construction at full speed in Ferndale

Thanks to our Anonymous contributor in Ferndale and to Wesley, one of our Web Correspondents, we have tons of new interesting details on "The Majestic" production.

According to the January 11th edition of "The Ferndale Enterprise" sent in by Wesley, an agreement was reached between Castle Rock and the City of Ferndale on Monday 8th, making it possible for the film crew to build the Majestic at the city parking lot. The lot will be available to production for a 15-20 weeks period, as of January 22nd and at a rate of $1,500 a week.

Besides the weekly rate, the city has also received $6,250 in film permit fees. Other terms of the contract call for the movie company to repave and strip the lot according to city specifications when the shoot is finished.

"The Majestic" isn't Ferndale's first experience with film crews - the city also hosted "Outbreak" starring Dustin Hoffman, among other productions. Curiously enough, as our source in Ferndale told us, one of "The Majestic" sets, namely the "diner," is being built at the same exact place used by the crew of "Outbreak" - an old gas station. As he explained:

«The gas station is still wearing its stage makeup from when Warner Brothers filmed Outbreak here [...] ---none of what's being demolished was there before that except the basic building. They will be tearing down an old set to build a new set.»

In addition he also let us know that:

«The Ferndale Enterprise published a sketch of the diner set in its January 31 edition: this will be built at the same site as the old gas station set used for Outbreak---its a streamline moderne style building with wraparound windows and curved roofline.

Castle Rock and the City are finalizing details for the purchase of a minimum of sixteen victorian style street light standards to replace the older modern lighting on Main Street, to be used in the shooting of The Majestic---these will remain in Ferndale when Castle Rock moves on.

The outside skin of The Majestic Theatre set is beginning to go up, now: larger walls of compostion board were being hoisted in place today [1/31/01], hanging from 40 foot poles.»

From all the information and details previously known regarding the exterior sets it seemed that they'd be mainly located on Main Street. The relative locations of the sets were further clarified by our source at Ferndale:

«The City Hall and Town Square are right at the crossroads of Main and Ocean: the diner is at this junction.

The Majestic is being built in the small city parking lot on Main Street half a block down from the diner location on the opposite site of the street.»

Buildings around the sets are also undergoing a face-lift, which includes new paint schemes.

It's unknown if Frank Darabont has already decided on a few other locations also required for the shoot. Namely a sheriff's office, which according to the shoot's Location Manager, Rory Enke, could be located on Francis. St., near the City Hall set, and a doctor's office. For this last one production scouts were looking at locations in Victorian homes.

Although casting is said to be complete already (except for extras) no new names have been officially confirmed besides those of Jim Carrey, Martin Landau, Alan Garfield and Bruce Campbell. However, AICN has recently mentioned Jeff DeMunn and Bob Balaban as being part of the cast and, according to our Ferndale source, James Whitmore has also been frequently rumored to play the doctor.

Still want more details on the sets locations? Click below for:
