Wednesday, April 25, 2001

Okay now it's REALLY catching up with the news a bit....there we go...

Jim Carrey is nominated again at the MTV Movie awards

So hopefully, with a little help from ourselfs we can make sure we get two of his funny speeches at June 2nd.

MTV has announced the nominees for the 2001 MTV Movie Awards, which will be taped June 2nd in L.A., Shrine Auditiorium, and broadcast on June 7th, 9 pm (ET/PT). A national poll of MTV and MTV2 viewers chose the nominees, and online voting will be possible at www.mtv.com from 4/24 to 5/23. You can also vote via phone.

Jim Carrey is nominated in two categories: as BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE (Me, Myself & Irene) and BEST VILLAIN (Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas).

Additonally, online-visitors can pick their nominees in four new categories including "Favorite Line", "Best Cameo", "Best Music Movement" and "Best Dressed". These nominees will be announced as late as 5/23.

BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE

Jim Carrey - Me, Myself & Irene (Twentieth Century Fox)
Tom Green - Road Trip (DreamWorks SKG)
Martin Lawrence - Big Momma's House (Twentieth Century Fox)
Eddie Murphy - Nutty Professor 2:The Klumps (Universal Pictures)
Ben Stiller - Meet The Parents (Universal Pictures)

BEST VILLAIN

Kevin Bacon - Hollow Man (Columbia Pictures)
Jim Carrey - Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Universal Pictures)
Vincent D'Onofrio - The Cell (New Line Cinema)
Anthony Hopkins - Hannibal (Universal Pictures)
Joaquin Phoenix - Gladiator (DreamWorks SKG)

Grinch video and DVD coming up

Jco reports that "The Grinch" will be on video and DVD this November 20th. And just like last year, Universal will launch a huge marketing promotion -- more "Grinch" memorabilia! - which follows the release date. Universal snagged Hershey Foods, Wendy's, First Book and Heinz North America as their promotional partners. An example of such promotion is Heinz introducing bottles of green ketchup, the same color as the Grinch. Don't be confused with "Shrek"'s green ketchup promotion.

However, "The Grinch" will be slightly expensive. The 10 million video and 5 million DVDs will be at least $2 more than the sale-price of $24.98.

the Kids choose Jim again

Jim Carrey won a Kids' Choice Blimp Award in the category of Favorite Movie Actor at Nickelodeon's 14th Annual Kids' Choice Awards. The award was given for his performance in "Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas", which was also voted Favorite Movie. The event was telecast live, Saturday, April 21 at 8 p.m. ET from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA. Jim Carrey could not attend the event as he was filming "The Majestic" in Ferndale.

Carrey & Spacey to co-star in "Fool On The Hill"?

According to JoBlo.com and MovieHeadlines.net (originally appeared at Ananova.com), Jim Carrey and Kevin Spacey are going to team-up for "The Fool on The Hill". Here's the scoop: "Jim Carrey and Kevin Spacey are to co-star in a movie about a radio station which broadcasts from a mental hospital. It's hoped work will begin on The Fool On The Hill early next year. Carrey will play a radio enthusiast who discovers the unused station in a small town hospital. Spacey will play the hospital administration officer who befriends the new 'inmate' in his bid to bring laughter to his patients. A source close to Carrey told Ananova: 'Jim jokes that this is One Blew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, but it is a brilliant piece of writing.' Julia Ormond is being pencilled in to play one of the disturbed patients who falls for Carrey."

That would be AWESOME!

and last but not least Jimcarreyonline has some Majestic Set reports.. very interesting!!!

He has won!!! in the first category for "The Grinch". There's no confirmation if Carrey attended the event or not. The show aired yesterday though,(8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.I missed it. Booohoo. Wondering if he has been there or not.

Pictures from "The Majestic" sets #7 - The lobby (interior)

You've seen its facade and now, thanks to Anne & Jenn, behold the beautiful Art Deco style interior of the Majestic, built at the Humboldt County fairgrounds:

Pictures from "The Majestic" sets #6 - The Majestic is reborn

The Majestic is being reborn and Ferndale Fritz and David LaRue's cameras captured several beautiful views of the refurbished theater. Notice also the small areas still looking old, probably for scene purposes:

Ferndale newsiebitsies

Uhm...to catch up a little with the Ferndale scoop, with a big thank you to JCO for having all the scoop all the time :). Let me see....there is the official Majestic Website. Not much to see yet but hey, that's the thing with those sites, the more closer to the movie coming out, the more there will be to see. So keep checking there.

JCO also reports a very funny anecdote:

«I'm working at the set of "The Majestic" being filmed in Ferndale. Carrey was eating lunch right in the window of the restaurant while a dozen lookie-lou's craned their necks down the street to get a peek at Carrey or any of the co-stars. The best part is the restaurant was right behind the lookie-lou's! Three teenage girls and one teenage boy gave up and walked away. The boy saw Carrey in the window and pointed him out to the girls. Carrey's security diverted them by pointing out "That ain't him that's his stand-in" and the teenagers agreed that wasn't him and walked away. Too bad, it WAS Carrey.»

and they also report that

Darabont impressed with Carrey's acting

"It's good to be king!" -- and it's also good to be Army Archerd. The senior Variety columnist got to talk with Frank Darabont on "The Majestic" set in Ferndale and published on today's column some very flattering comments from the director regarding Jim Carrey's performance in the movie.

According to Darabont, Jim Carrey is "the most committed actor I've ever seen. When he shows up on the set it starts vibrating. He took my breath away." The director also added that "the movie is wonderfully Capra-esque. I've always seen Jimmy Stewart in Jim Carrey. He's such a fan of his and loves his movies. We really vibe'd."

Archerd also found out that another LA scene already shot took place at the Formosa Cafe, a legendary artists hang-out, located near the Warner Hollywood Studios in Santa Monica Boulevard. In this scene Carrey's character is in a deep emotional turmoil, having lost in the same day his job and his girlfriend. Darabont said to the columnist on the subject that "Jim did a beautiful job -- one he's not been given the opportunity to do."

and Ferndale Fritz reports...

«Thursday's filming was almost exclusively the town council meeting. Harry & Pete were put right at the top of the agenda when they walked in. Pete announced that restoring the Majestic was going to take a lot of work, and asked permission to scrounge around town for things he might need..paint, brushes, lightbulbs, etc. The council agreed to support the project, with the condition, rather wryly put in by one of the members, that no city monies be spent. Townsfolk were also asked to volunteer to help. It was a brief scene, perhaps 3 minutes long at most, all shot indoors at the Masonic lodge, but there were many, many takes all day long.»

and even MORE reporting...

Bits on "The Majestic" filming: April 2, 3 and 5

Here's a few details on this week's shoot courtesy of our Anonymous correspondent, Ferndale Fritz and Gary Franklin: Although a big scene in the cemetary complete with a band and about 200 extras was planned for Monday, the weather didn't allow for the schedule to be carried out as expected. A rainy day paused exterior filming and made production move to the Ferndale Fairgrounds where the interior sets are located. About a half-day's work was done there and everyone was excused after the lunch break.

It's unknown if the scene programmed for the previous day was finally filmed on Tuesday, or not, but there was activity on that day around Main Street as the picture, by Gary Franklin, demonstrates. The photo was taken at about 6:30 PM and captured the final shot of that day.

Then the 5th of April, Ferndale Fritz told JCO that there was a good probability that some filming at the Masonic Lodge building would occur:

«It looks like there will be some "town hall interior" shooting today. The Masonic Lodge building's main hall has been set up as a town meeting-room. It's located diagonally across the street from "Town Hall" so it will be an easy transition from entering the front doors of the town hall facade, to being in the meeting room.»

And although his camera's flash was uncooperative, he still managed to take a couple pictures of the building, and its interior ready for the shoot:
