More fund raising!

Juliette and jco made me see this new scoop! yay!

Shortly after the success of "America - A Tribute To Heroes" TV special which raised over $150 million from viewers' donations worldwide, the next big show is coming our way. "The Concert for New York" will be a joint event of VH1, Cablevision and Miramax Films, scheduled for October 20 at Madison Square Garden, and again, the list of performers donating their time is definitely an impressive one. Paul McCartney, The Who, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Macy Gray, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge, India Arie as well as Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Cusack and members of all of New York's sports teams have already been confirmed to attend. Just as its predecessor, the concert will be multibroadcast over the globe commercial-free to help raising money for the September 11th victims and rescue workers. Members of the New York Fire, Police and Rescue crews and their families have been invited to the four-hour show which airs at 8:00 pm (ET/PT) on October 20, 2001. AOL will webcast the event, adding several interactive elements of information to it. A memorabilia auction for charity and all merchandise sales have been announced to further support fund raising efforts. The money will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, established by the Robin Hood Foundation, with funds to be distributed to the Twin Towers Fund created by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and other charities and is said to aid victims and their families 100 %. James Dolan, President and CEO of Cablevision, John Sykes, President of VH1, and Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chairman of Miramax published in a joint statement: "This is an evening where all of us who either live in New York or love this great city can show our appreciation and thanks to the thousands of workers who risked their lives to save others. It also will pay tribute to the incredible pride and resilience of New York City. The initial response from the artist and entertainment community to this tribute has been nothing short of incredible." Tickets will be available on Sunday, October 7 at 12:00 noon through Ticketmaster phones, outlets and via internet at Ticketmaster.com.

Jim Carrey will donate 1 million dollar

Actor-comedian Jim Carrey plans to donate $1 million to the families of those killed or missing in last week's devastating attacks on America, his publicist said Wednesday.

A statement said Carrey, one of the highest-paid performers in Hollywood, was making his donation victims' families ``with his deepest sympathy for their unredeemable personal losses. He hopes this donation encourages other people to contribute as generously as they can.''

So said Reuters right here.. And there are rumours Jim might even host the "A Tribute To Heroes" Telethon, but that are still rumors so far.

SET YOUR VCR'S!!! Jim and a bunch of others are going to help raise funds and spirits for NY

e!online reports that a who's who of entertainers--from Tom Cruise to Tom Hanks to Tom Petty--has agreed to assemble Friday night for an unprecedented telethon on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox to aid the victims of last week's horrific terrorist attacks.

The live two-hour event, called America: A Tribute to Heroes, will "raise funds and raise the spirits of all who have been touched by the horrific tragedy that has struck America," according to a joint press release Tuesday from the four networks.

"America: A Tribute to Heroes will seek to unite a shaken world with words and music while paying tribute to the indomitable spirit, unfaltering fortitude and courage that truly makes America 'the land of the free and the home of the brave,' " the press release reads. Billed as "an unforgettable and uplifting evening filled with music, memories, hope and inspiration," the event will be simulcast commercial free on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox from 9-11 p.m. ET/CT (it will be tape-delayed in Mountain and Pacific time zones). In addition, the feed is being made available to all other broadcast and cable networks and radio stations. (E!, MTV and VH1 are among those cable nets planning to carry the broadcast. E! is also planning a one-hour preshow airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT that will heighten awareness of the telethon and provide a preview of what has gone into making the event happen.)

Participants will include the aforementioned Mssrs. Cruise, Hanks and Petty, along with (in alphabetical order) Bon Jovi, Amy Brennenman, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Sheryl Crow, Cameron Diaz, the Dixie Chicks, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Calista Flockhart, Dennis Franz, Kelsey Grammer, Faith Hill, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Conan O'Brien, Ray Romano, Julia Roberts, Paul Simon, Will Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Sela Ward, Robin Williams, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young, with more likely to be added in coming days.

All funds raised by America: A Tribute to Heroes will be earmarked for the postattack relief effort.

The networks say they're footing the bill for the broadcast, which is coming at a time of year when they're usually trying to out-hype and out-rate each other to launch new shows.

It's so great that they are doing this!

Premiere article bit

There is this tidbit about the Majestic in this Septembers Premiere issue anddd I happened to scan it :) So there you go:

Premiere issue ---> and read more Darabont quotes here

And thanks to Melanie at the message board of JCO I read that more footage from "The Majestic" was shown by ET.

"Entertainment Tonight showed a new scene from "The Majestic" on their 8/31/01 show. Jim Carrey was seated in a diner surrounded by people. Laurie Holden walks in and the crowd parts for her. Jim stands and stares at her. Close-up on Laurie who says, "Do you remember me?" Jim: "No, but I'll sure try to." The small clip was included in a bunch of other clips as possible Oscar contenders and Jim in "The Majestic" headed off the list."
