Jar Jar Binks spent most of his life living in the Gungan city of Otoh Gunga. Due to some accidents and clumsy mishaps, Jar Jar was banished from the Gungan city. During the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo, Jar Jar's life was saved by Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn. By Gungan laws, Jar Jar's life now belonged to Qui-Gon. Jar Jar took Qui-Gon and his apprentice Obi-Wan underwater to the Gungan city, where they arranged for a transport to travel to the Naboo city of Theed. In Theed they rescued Queen Amidala and traveled across the Galaxy to Coruscant, where the Queen was to make a plea to the Senate to stop the Federation's invasion of Naboo. During a conversation with the Queen, Jar Jar mentioned that the Gungan's had a large army. Fearing that the Senate would do nothing to stop the Federation, Queen Amidala boarded her ship to return to Naboo. Amidala asked Jar Jar to assist her in convincing the Gungan's to join them in fighting the Federation. The Gungans and the Naboo had long since been enemies. Jar Jar brought Amidala to the Gungans where they formed an alliance. While Amidala stormed the palace, Jar Jar helped lead the Gungan army out to face the Droid Army. After a brutal battle, the Gungans and the Naboo defeated the Droid Army. Jar Jar's actions helped bring peace between the Naboo and the Gungans. He was soon elected to serve along with Amidala in the Senate as the Gungan Representative of Naboo. When Amidala became the target of assassins, she was forced to leave Coruscant during the critical debate over the creation of the Republic army. Jar Jar took her place in the Senate. The Senate soon learned that the Separatists were forming an Army on Geonosis and preparing to declare war on the Republic. They also learned that someone had secretly placed an order for a Clone Army to be created for the Republic. It was known that the Senate would never vote in favor of the use of a Clone Army, so the suggestion was brought up that one of the Loyalist Senators could make a motion to grant the Chancellor Emergency Powers over the Republic. Jar Jar Binks was the one to propose it before the Senate, and the Senate voted in favor. This gave Chancellor Palpatine the power to approve the creation of the Army of the Republic, which would bring about the start of the Clone War. Although it seemed to be a wise move at the time, Jar Jar's motion to grant Palpatine emergency powers backfired drastically. Palpatine gained more and more power, and the Clone War dragged on and on. Jar Jar joined Senators Padme Amidala and Bail Organa as a coalition to oppose Palpatine's leadership. This coalition proved to be too little too late, as soon enough the Sith would have control of the Republic, the Jedi would be overthrown, and Jar Jar's oldest ally Padme Amidala would be dead. |
