IN LOVING MEMORY

OF

STEVEN ABBOTT BAER

The Best Boss Ever!

You were a part of my life for fourteen years

And today as I look back, through sorrow and tears,

I recall in my mind the day I was hired

And how, from that very first day, you were admired.

In an especially warm and affectionate way

You greeted me each and every day;

You were always there if I needed to talk

And offered encouragement when I started to walk.

A special day never slipped your mind

And you were always so thoughtful and kind;

I will always treasure the many gifts from you

And know you appreciated the work I did too.

Your nature was so caring, always thinking of others,

Never putting your own needs above those of another;

Everyone who knew you was quite aware of the fact

Your generosity was genuine and not just an act.

Your eyes shone with pride at the mention of your girls,

They were more precious to you than diamonds or pearls;

And the genuine love you had for your wife

Was clear to those with whom you shared your life.

Oh, how you loved your Yankees,

and when they won you were so pleased;

You loved your many "toys" and gadgets,

but even more you loved your pets.

The way you cared for your dogs was so impressive

Everyone could see your fashion was quite effective.

For they not only loved you with all their heart,

They always minded you right from the start.

Under your leadership, Apex became Apexical

And you kept up everyone’s morale;

During times when our jobs put us to the test

You encouraged us to put forth our best.

I was always amazed with your inner calculator

For you were a very accurate estimator.

And even when I didn’t understand your reasons

You always seemed to make the right decisions.

Although computers weren’t really your thing

You took on the challenge like a new day in spring;

And I was proud to be the one you would call for

When your emails disappeared or decided to wage war.

Then when days came for which you weren’t prepared

You knew I would feverishly offer up prayers;

But even as those last days fast approached us

You never gave up and remained ambitious.

As the battle raged, you fought the fight

You struggled to hang on with all your might;

But then with a single glimpse of the Savior

You willing walked through Heaven’s door.

You will be missed by many for years to come

As we pick up the pieces of each little crumb;

But we will march onward in your memory

To be the best we can possibly be.

Coming to work for you is a decision I’m glad I made

It was definitely more than a fair trade;

For I’m richer today just to have known you

And your memory will remain sacred and true.
