Homer: An Artist's Colony, A Fishing Seaport
The most unique feature of this little town is known as the Homer Spit, a narrow, curving piece of land that ventures out into Katchemak Bay for 5 miles. Along this skinny arm, the Sterling Highway crawls to 30mph to its termination at Land's End Resort. But before it dies, it has a party. On each side of the roadway are colorful art galleries, kite shop, fish-and-chips places, custom jewelry stores, fishing charter offices, and anglers watching hired hands clean their day's catch of halibut. A striking of businesses hug each other along the boardwalk, while across the way, Homer's small boat harbor invites exploration.
