Seward: Gateway to the Kenai Fjords

The charming little community of Seward (SOO-word) lies at the foot of Mount Marathon, along the sparkling waters of Ressurection Bay.

Located just 2.5 hours south of Anchorage at the end of Seward Highway, this is a wonderful place to visit for a day or two, or more, any time of the year. Established in 1903 as an entry point for shipping into Alaska, Seward was created as a southern terminus of the Alaska Railroad because of its ice-free port.

Today, Seward is the "gateway to the Kenai Fjords" and home of the Kenai Fjords National Park - one of the most popular attractions on the road system - is just minutes away. From here, you can fly over or cruise to some of the most wildlife-choked regions of Alaska and view puffins, eagles, otters, dolphins, sea lions, whales and salmon. Here, too, are the glaciers, waterfalls and rocky fjords that beg exploring. (Source: Alaska guide)
