A Billy Jack Tribute Page

Was he really half American Indian and half white? Theres no question he's half white. The Indian part is very doubtful. But he sure could kick some butt. I've always regretted there are only 3 Billy Jack movies. Four if you count "The Born Losers". But according to the official Billy Jack web site a new one is in the works. This is great news for us fans. Keanu Reeves is being discussed as a possible lead. I can only hope it happens soon.

Tom Laughlin was a marketing genuis. Before "Billy Jack" movies were only shown at one theater in a city. Tom saw to it that Billy Jack was shown at several theaters in the same city. Thus more people per screening. Seems logical now, but at the time it was innovative. Billy Jack made some $35 million in its first year of release. In its second year it was used as a second feature in Drive-Ins. Making it even more money.

Most important; the Billy Jack movies are fun and entertaining. Please understand I don't buy into any of the philosophy or the emotional buttons that are pushed in these movies. Quite the opposite. I find them amusing and thus entertaining. If your into Hippie/Indian mysticisms then Billy Jacks your man. Theres an unusual scene in "The Trial of Billy Jack" where he slaps Jesus Christ while hallucinating on a Vision Quest. To Mr. C's credit he turns the other cheek.

Another interesting fact about Tom Laughlin is he ran for President of the United States in the 1992 New Hampshire Primaries as a Democrat. His platform was Universal Health Insurance. He recieved a total of 3,251 votes.

There are too many really great quotes from the movies to list here. But here are just a few of my favorites.

Posner: "We got the law here Billy Jack."
Billy Jack: "When policemen break the law then there isn't any law. Just a fight for survival."

From the famous "flour" scene in "Billy Jack" comes...
“The kids at the school tell me that I’m supposed to control my violent temper and be passive and nonviolent like they are. But when I look down, at this little girl, who is so beautiful that we call her ‘God’s little gift to sunshine’, and see what you’ve done to her, and see the memory she’s going to have to carry with her for the rest of her life, when I think about that... I just go beserk!!!”

". . .You Know what I'm gonna do, just for the hell of it. I'm gonna take this foot and I'm gonna wap you on that side of your head and there's not a goddamned thing you're gonna be able to do about it."
By the way we learn a very important lesson from these movies; when you going to kick some butt you need to remove your boots.

"Kunta Kinte is probally spinning in his grave knowing that you sold out to the man"

Redneck onlooker: “Watch his feet. He’ll kill you with his feet.”

Saturday Night Live did a spoof of "Billy Jack" with Paul Simon in which Lorrain Newman summed it up by saying that, "If only people could get along, Billy Jack wouldn't have to kill so many of them".
