The Unseelie Court

The Quest for Arcadia

From the viewpoint of Talon, Blood Knight of House Ailil

It was in a subsidary outpost of House Ailil where the Wilder known as Talon was stationed. "Stationed" was the polite term for it. In all actuality, it was the best place he could find through backstabbing and politicking that gave him the most power, the most cash and the least danger. Such is the way of the Sidhe of House Ailil, and Talon was of them.

He had heard of the one known as Damon, and out of all the Unseelie houses Ailil had the strongest interest in what Damon had to say. He was a prophet of things to come, the herald of a cause. All these things he had heard. Naturally, Talon was a bit skeptical, so he travelled but a short distance to northern Maryland, to a meeting free from the influence of the sods where Damon was to say his beliefs.

Talon arrived to find quite a gathering amassed. Most of them were probably Unseelie, with an expected scattering of Seelie here and there. Near a stand stood several large, dark and intimidating trolls. He recogized them as Damon’s personal guard. Damon himself, he was told, was a half troll/half vampire, and only with his personal insight could "the way" be found. Again, Talon was skeptical. Talon smiled as he caught sight of several childlings wearing black T-Shirts with "Believe in Damon" written on them in red paint. There was a varied assortment of Kith.

And then, as Talon and others watched, Damon walked up to the podium. Standing at about 6’3", Damon had dark blue skin, powerful black horns and flowing black hair that ran to his mid-waist. Damon had sharp talons of ebony and eyes that glowed red. Damon was clad in Black studded leather armor, with a scabbard for a beautiful longsword hanging from his side. Quite a sight, Talon thought, but in the world of the fey folk, nothing altogether special.

And still there was chatter in the crowd. The greatest challenge of any one speaking to a group of Unseelie was gaining the initial interest and respect. "Would you like to be immortal?" were the first words Damon said. A perfect opening, in Talon’s opinion. "Not just your spirit, but true immortality? Well you can have it. The beliefs that have been force-fed to you about the impossibility of returning to Arcadia are completely and thoroughly false. Arcadia can be reached. We will reach it."

"I have not come to ask you to fight the Winter. I have not come to ask you to follow me in some pointless pursuit of temporary gain. I have come to ask you only to save yourself, and the rest of your bretheren with you. Not from simply the eventual personal death but the death of our race as a whole at the hands of the Winter." Damon paused briefly. It had no effect on him, but Talon knew Damon had done so for the benefit of those in the crowd that were.. less mentally adept. Those that needed more time to let the words sink in.

"We are well on our way to discovering the true route to Arcadia even now. If you wish to join us, and give your strength to disposing those that would prevent our return, we would be most delighted to have you with us. All I ask for, however, is that you give your support in discovering more about how to make this journey back to the lands of our ancestors. That is all." Short and to the point, Talon thought. Perfect for the normal attention span of a Pooka.

"If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I’ll be in the lounge." Damon smiled as he said this, turning to walk off the podium. In Damon’s smile twin fangs were clearly visible, thus explaining the rumors of his vampiric origin. Of course, Talon knew that among the Unseelie that would only add to his support.

Talon was surprised to find that he actually agreed with what Damon had to say. The words had hit him like stone bricks of truth. Talon decided that he would take Damon up on his offer, for he had many a question to ask. Perhaps it was possible that he could gain more out of this "cause" than immortality..
