“Slayers”: Project Overkill
No, it’s not a “Slayers” movie, despite how cool
that would be, it is my theory on how Lina Inverse doesn't like to just
beat her Competition she likes to obliterate them and the surrounding landscape.
Now don’t get me wrong “Slayers” is a great series, I love it, it is just
that some of the magic she uses is slightly too much for the job.
A great example of this would be
where she used “Dragon Slave” to take out four maybe five people.
Now I understand that, that spell a great visually it is just that for
killing only five people she could have used a fireball or a lesser spell.
Rezo for instance is way to powerful. He could kill Lina, Goury,
Zelgadis, and the rest with no trouble at all, but he doesn't use his most
powerful spell, not counting
summoning Shabranigdo because he needed the “Philosopher Stone”.
It is, as I said, a wonderful show, but there is an overkill factor in
almost every episode. Another great example of this is when every
Lina and Goury eat. My god can those people eat. They eat an
entire town worth of food every time they eat. I also wonder why
Goury is so stupid. It is amazing that he can handle his sword with
his low understanding of everything else. He even forgets the names
of people right after he meets them. I know it is a slapstick comedy,
just that it is at times overkill.
One other problem I have is the fact that everybody
calls Lina a little girl and unattractive physically, where she is very
pretty and thin. They are always talking about her small chest when
she is well proportioned, except the fact that when she eats she should
gain weight. Now I have never seen the O.A.V.’s but I have seen the
cover and if they are comparing Lina to Nahga then yes I can understand
the argument, but Nahga is really annoying, where Lina is not. I
don't know about anybody else but I have rarely seen an ugly girl in any
anime. Not that I am complaining just that I find it weird.
Understandable of course for it is logical to use good looking girls since
people would rather see a good looking person than an ugly one. Well,
anyway the overkill in “Slayers” really just adds to the show. It
is really funny to watch a person be blown away by the most powerful spell
in all of black magic when a “flare arrow” would have done the job.
