EL TAJIN, LOCATED ONLY ABOUT 10 KMS. FROM PAPANTLA, WAS
BUILT BY THE MAYANS BACK IN 350 A.D. SINCE ITS
START, IT DEVELOPED INTO A LARGE CITY WITH TEMPLES, ALTARS,
PALACES FOR NOBILITY AND SEVERAL LARGE
BALL COURTS, WHERE SOMETIMES THE LOSERS WHERE SACRIFICED
TO THEIR GODS. IT WAS LATER INHABITED BY THE TOTONAC INDIANS.
IT IS HERE THAT THEY WORSHIPED THE GODS OF THE SON, AND THE
DIRECTIONS OF NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, AND WEST. THE TEMPLE OF
THE NICHES PICTURED ABOVE HAS 365 NICHES THAT REPRESENT THE
DAYS OF THE CALENDAR. ALSO IN THE ALBUM IS OUR GUIDE SHOWING US
A TABLET WHERE THE INDIANS WHERE MAKING A DRINK FROM THE STALK OF A
FLOWERING PLANT. JUST OUTSIDE THE RUINS, YOU CAN SEE
THE TOTONACAN INDAIN FLYERS WORSHIP AS THEY SPIN DOWN A 26
METER TALL POLE. ENJOY!!!
