So who DO you think did it? Well how bout this, email me your total theory on why and who did it, and I will post it.
Remember, a full explination will be needed. Please, no; "It was the fishermen".
Theory 1.)Owen -A serial killer hunted them down. Made the group go nuts etc. When they reached that tree branch to walk across, the serial killer knew they were close to the car, since that was the groups' second meeting spot at that rock. He soon realized if he took someone away, the other members would stay around and look for him. He later took his teeth and made him stay alive so that the group wouldn't think he would be dead so they HAD to keep looking for him. When they walked into the house again, he was still alive, and he was downstairs where the killer was. When Mike came down he saw Josh's parts in the corner, he got hit in the head from behind and then hung for Heather to see, and again she would have eventually had the same fate.
Theory 2.)The couple(Joe and Claudette)-None of the students "did it." Why? Because that would make things too "easy," and too cut and dried. It's very important for the writers of this film to carry on the whole mystery of the Blair Witch. To make one of the students (or even Mary Brown) the killer, that ends the mystery. What we suspect is that this mystery will be carried on for a long time to come. Even in the sequel, what happened to the students will not definitely solved. Our personal opinion is that the sequel may contain some "lost" footage, or new footage that may answer some of our questions, but it won't answer all of our questions.
Theory 3.)Kimberly A. Klaus -A couple of us have our own theory about what happened to our intrepid trio...we think the Witch trapped them forever in their own film reels, therefore having to live their nightmare over and over on celluloid.
Theory 4.)Brock Miller -They get lost. The compass presumably has misled them. Of interesting point to note is the fact that many paranormal investigators take electromagnetic field reading devices. It could well be possable that if abberations in magnetic fields are means of detection of ghosts that one with focused intent and power by occult means opperating from the non corporeal could manipulate the compass. I know, seems like a stretch.
The sounds they hear repeatedly at night are the stacking of rocks.. on all sides, simultaneously. This is performed by a telekinetic means. Understand that the thing that is screwing with them doesnt have a pulse. Normally I wouldnt be inclined to believe that as I believe that you should apply human psychology to a former human for a safe grasp of what is at hand. According to the mythos, Elly may well have been a witch. If this is so, she has an understanding of things outside of the realm of the norm that would enable her to act in a fashion such as this where your typical no pulse havin critter would still behave in a manner in keeping with who or what they were in life.
The blue stuff on Josh's gear may likely be the same stuff as what was said to have throughout the creek earlier in the timeline and is likely a manufactured good and not ectoplasm as one person suggested. For what practical ends it is used, I do ot know. Perhaps if we want to be creepy about it, it may be a flying ointment. Flyin ointments were actually hallucinogenic herbs and such used by witches in thier ceremony and spell work that involved astral projection. She may have doped Josh with it to facilitate his breakdown and to make him the first easy kill.
The stick men remind me of the concept of wicker men and poppets both prevalent in late Celtic "magic". I thik the gate at Mary's place may be coincidental, but I do think rather that the old loon is subject to becoming obsessed with the Spirit Of The Blair Witch. She is a an easy target for mental domination becasue her mind is flawed.
Webmaster-So ya think it was just a witch? Hence the name of the film, I think you are correct.
Theory 5.)lovesick -No one "dunnit" because they're still alive! On the other side........trapped in a parallel dimension. The stick figures were part of a spell that created a portal for spirits to travel between this world and the next. When HEATHER cut down one of the figures (Josh metions this in his "here's your motivation" speech, but it is not shown in the film) she traps a spirit here in our world. The spirit is very UNHAPPY about it and terrrorizes them, luring them into a non-existent house. In the background materials and mockumentary for the film, it is revealed that Rustin Parr's house was burned down around the time of his hanging. The house they ran into was a trap, part of a door between dimensions. The stolen stick figure is brought back to its rightful owner, MIKE and HEATHER are reunited with JOSH on the other side, and they now have the task of getting back to our reality. That's why it took a year for the bag of film cans and tapes to show up in the new house that was built on Rustin Parr's foundation. Our 3 heroes are trying to punch their way back into this world.
Theory 6.)Go Away -I think that Josh and Mike we're behind it all. I mean, Josh could have disappeared in the night and stayed at the house and waited for Heather and Mike. Josh could have told Mike about the plan before he disappeared. He told him to go to the house and to take Heather to the basement and then Josh would knock her out while Mike pretended to be standing in the corner, waiting for the other person to be killed. I mean why did Mike run off from Heather when she was upstairs, and when they were going into the house? I mean if that were me, I certainly would've waited for my friend because there's no way I'd go in by myself. Josh pretended to knock out Mike, I mean if Mike were knocked out wouldn't he stilled be passed out and not standing in the corner? I mean Heather didn't even get up. So my theroy is that Josh AND Mike did it.
Theory 7.)Drew Dahmer -As for who I think did it? Well, let's start with who I don't think did it. It wasn't Heather, or Mike, or Josh, OR Mary! Surprised? I don't even think it was Elly Kedward directly. I think it was either Rustin Parr's Ghost
Theory 8.)Angry Pooka -The two fishermen seemed to be at least familiar with the legend and thus would have provided them with enough information to begin harrassing the students in accordance with the legend--stick bundles, etc. Also, as fishermen they would be quite adept at tying together small objects (like stickmen) due to their long practice of working with fish hooks, lines, etc. Also, if there was no Blair Witch, then more than one individual had to take out Heather--one to make Mike stand in the corner, one to go after Heather. Two individuals working together would also would have had an easier time restraining Josh and making him scream out for help to lure them to the house.
Motive? Maybe at first just to scare them, but Mike's remark about "rednecks" not being so creative may have set them on the path to murder. :-)
Okay, it's dumb--but ain't you ever seen "Deliverance?" I wouldn't put nothing past those backwater types! :-)
Webmaster -Oh my, that my friend is VERY interesting!
Theory 9.)Holy73crux -i'm pretty sure the Blair Witch is the guy who lives across the alley from me. he keeps walking outside drunk and yelling at me that he's "sick of all these damn flies around my backdoor. you better shut the lid on that f**king dumpster or i'm calling the "city". he's such a dick about it too. . .i'd probably just shut the lid if he'd ask nicely but nooooooooooo. anyone one who's that big of an @$$hole is definately the Blair Witch, especially HIM. He probably shot JFK too. I bet he's the gunman in the grassy knoll.
Webmaster -Sure dude, whatever lol
Theory 10.)Bryan -Personally, I think that none of the three killed anyone. THey were all innocent victims that happened to bea t the wrong place at the wrong time. It was the Blair witch that made that man murder the children, so when the trio stumbles upon the twiggy things, and Heather cuts one down, that is their fatal mistake. THe witch is only going about her witchy beliefs and Heather screwed up her spell or whatever by cutting one of the twigs down. THis angers the witch so she then takes Josh and kills him, then she delivers her little "present" outside their tent, with Josh's facial parts, that is thier hint to get the hell out of the area or elso. But with Heathers stupid compass, they cannot get out that day, so the witch, thinking that they aren;t going to leave, decides to make them pay, and lures them to the house. She then makes Mikey go into the basement and stand in the corner, and then drags heather down there too and kills her, and then Josh. Maybe, since she made that man kill the children and he couldn't stand eyes watching him, she can't stand that either so she repeats the process. SO it was just cause the witch thought they were invading her territory.
Theory 11.)John -Wombles from wimbledon common have moved to america as they bored with the quanitity of litter that the english drop... And they realised when they got to america that they drop litter to and they just got so angry that they decide to kill some innocent teenagers who were "on somebody elses turf" , as the wombles were trying to settle there home in the house...
Theory 12.)Kryten -If you recall from the companion documentary, Curse Of The Blair Witch, the townspeople of Blair fled when winter broke in 1785, never to return. The most any of the survivors would say is that the town was under a curse . . . However, there is one piece of evidence that is somewhat glossed over. I'm referring to the account published in 1809, The Blair Witch Cult. Note the word cult. The handwritten book clearly describes horrors that were perpetrated by a cult, in the name of Elly Kedward. Clearly, there was a large number of cultists around at that time . . . In my opinion, that cult survives to the present day! They've lived in secret places in those woods, interbreeding over the decades, keeping the faith, as it were. Now whether you choose to believe in a supernatural explanation, such as the Witch controlling them all, or a more prosaic one, that it's just a insane mob living hidden from modern society, is up to you.
Theory 13.)Lisa -I believe "the couple - Joe & Claudette" DID IT !!! They seem to be able to discredit all the major subjects, maybe they have the inside scoop !!!
