Jenny and her family have to move, leaving behind the farm, and Jenny's pony, Magic. It is the worse thing that's ever happened to Jenny.
Before moving, Jenny finds a caterpillar in the milkweed fields behind the barn, and she takes it along. It's a piece of the farm, a piece of the life she once knew.
Now Jenny must live in an apartment in town. She hates her new life and longs for her pony, Magic. As she goes through the changes in her life she watches her tiny caterpillar going through changes of his own, and she wonders, how hard is it for a caterpillar to accept change, and a new life?
But Jenny is in for a lot of nice surprises. She learns that life is what you make it, and in the end, she finds a new kind of magic in town.
And the caterpillar? He emerges, a beautiful orange and black Monarch butterfly. Leaving behind the skin of his chrysalis, he too, is ready to face a whole new life!
