The real pony, Sea Feather

The book of Sea Feather came to life after the Szymanski family got their first Chincoteague Pony, the real life Sea Feather.

"We had traveled to Chincoteague for the annual wild pony swim and auction in 1995, with no real plans of buying a pony. For me, the trip was research. It was a place for me to look for more true stories to write about," Szymanski said. "But my children, who had asked every year if they could buy a pony, suddenly told us they had $500 saved and asked if they could try to purchase a pony at the auction. After much debate, we said okay, but we didn't think they'd get one. The ponies sell for a lot more than $500," Szymanski said.

"But then a chain of events began that seemed to be pure destiny, and in stepped two angels who seemed to know what the future should hold. And suddenly we had the pony we'd all always dreamed of, and the story of how we got him was so amazing that it practically begged to be told.!"

The real Sea Feather is an eight year old stallion who is as gentle as a warm breeze, more sweet, kind and even-tempered than any horse Szymanski has known.
