"Avoidable Plights"

December 7, 1992

based on RUSH "Available Light"

Feel this wind, breathe the air

Internalize our plight

Acids and oxides of every kind

Invisible to your sight

Breathe it in, breathe it out

Respirate it until you die

Some of us go a step beyond

and ask ourselves why

Yes, the wind can carry, flourocarbons to me

Yes, the wind can carry, carbon dioxide to me

Yes, the wind can carry, acid rain to me

Yes, the wind can carry, the smog to me

The wind and weather can carry pollution over land and sea

The wind and weather can carry pollution to you and me

The winds blow around the world, I want to live my life

free from avoidable plights

Kill some ozone, kill a forest

Maybe the human genetic seed

Poisoned water, air, and soil

by people poisoned by greed

Rich today, dead tomorrow

What do they care?

The rest of us treasure life and beauty

and worry about our air

Yes, society can spread, ideas about our Earth

Yes, society can legislate policies to put Nature first

People who care about Nature can make a change

Save a tropical rain forest, save a mountain range

Save our fragile world, we want to live our lives free from

avoidable plights

(bridge)

Yes, the wind can carry, oxygen to me

Yes, the wind can carry, fragrances to me

The wind is our friend, we have been its enemy

It will forgive us, when our mistakes we see

Respect the wind around our world, let us live our lives

without any avoidable plights

Alternate: So humanity won't be gone with the wind

If we can see the light

The wind will carry our life
