George left England on the 20th February 1874, on the ship Rooparell, which took 100 days to reach Auckland, New Zealand with his wife and three young children aged five, three and nine months.
When they arrived, they were amongst the first Waikato pioneers. They took packhorses across rough country terrain to Hamilton. This took them three days and they first resided in a tent. George and his young family settled in Hamilton for a while before moving onto Ohaupo, then Scotchman's Valley. He was the first to break in land at Tauwhare, where they lived for 16 years.
The last 20 years of his life was spent in Morrinsville. George died at his home at the age of 91.
According to the shipping summaries, Frances was two years older than George.
