Pagan Poetry and Art

Along a sunlit wooded trail
Walked our heroine, Elizabeth Dale.
A bulging canvas travel sack
Our friend, Ms. Dale, had on her back.
Fresh, juicy fruit and homemade bread-
Fragrant smells danced round her head.
"I'll take a break," she told herself,
"When I come to the rock shaped like an elf."

So hiking quickly, whistling merry,
She never noticed a curious fairy.
The fairy fluttered and landed atop
The bouncing food sack, then stopped.
She poked fairy fingers, then fairy head.
And took a bite of Elizabeth's bread.
She munched on apple, then on pear.
"I see the rock. I'm almost there,"
said weary Liz, with aching feet.
She opened her sack, ready to eat.
Liz's mouth made an O. Her eyes were wide!
A tiney fairy asleep inside!
The fruit was gone; the bread was too!
Elizabeth couldn't believe it was true!

"Ahah!" said Elizabeth, "Shine and Rise!"
The sleepy fairy opened her eyes.
"So where's my bread;where's my jelly?!"
The fairy pointed at her belly.
"Well, I'm glad you liked it! That's very sweet.
But as you can see, I've nothing to eat!"
The tiney fairy face looked sad.
She hadn't mean't to be so bad.

The fairy snapped her fingers twice
From behind trees scurried forest mice.
The mice spread out a cloth so green
As squirrels scampered on the scene.
Each one carried a minature tray
And on the cloth they began to lay
Raisins, nuts, cookies and cake.
Elizabeth whispered "For goodness sake!"
Rabbits served cold lemonade in a mug
As Elizabeth slowly sat down on the rug.
The fairy excitedly jumped up and down.
The smile on her face had replaced a frown.
She offered Liz a dewdrop made into candy.
Liz licked and exclaimed "It's really dandy!"
Elizabeth nibbled each lucious sweet
Then said, "I'm full now! No more to eat!
So Liz lay back and looked at blue skies.
As the fairy worked magick Liz closed her eyes.

The sun was a rosy glow going down,
When Liz finally awoke and started for town.
There wasn't a crumb from her magickal meal!
No more magick to eat-but magick to feel!
We hope you can feel it, especially today!
It's all of our love on your 12th birthday!

With Love, Aunt Cindy
