ERICK KYLE VENAAS
THIS is a dedication to our son , ERICK KYLE VENAAS , our angel who left us after just 17 short days. We will never be able to tell him or show him how much we love and miss him. Erick was born with transposition of the great arteries. He fought a good fight but his little body couldnt take the burden. Erick was born on October 12, 1998 and went to be with Jesus on October 29, 1998.Our love for him will never fade and we know he is watching us from above.

Erick was born on October 12,1998.He had a very rough delivery with the doctors losing his heartbeat twice. After delivery he was very blue which the doctors said was not uncommon. They cleaned him up and let Robin hold him for just a minute and off he went.I went to see him in the nursery and they were concerned with his breathing. They told us they were going to send him to Childrens Hospital in D.C.
|
He arrived at Childrens at 5:00 that evening and was taken immediately to the NICU.Tests were run on him for his lungs and they couldnt find anything wrong with his lungs. They told us they were going to check his heart as a precaution the next day. They did the echo on his heart and discovered he had Transposition of the Great Arteries. He also had Coarctation of the Aorta. We were overwhelmed, we had never dreamed this could happen to us.We got to hold him for the only time that night. They scheduled the surgery for Thursday morning.
The surgery lasted 10 hours ,the last 3 hours of it due to excessive bleeding. The Dr. told us he thought it went well.We got to see him later that night.About 1 am the next morning they woke us up and said he was having problems. They put him on the ECMO where he stayed for the next six days.Things went up and down there. They put him on Hemo-dialysis because of fluid buildup. After the sixth day, very little fluid still on him, they took him off ECMO and we then went to the PICU.They had alot of problems stabilizing him that night but he did get a little better.
The next morning he had a crash with his blood pressure and they told us he wouldnt make it through the day.He proved them wrong this time and stabilized for 4 good days. Then the next morning he crashed again and we had real problems this time. They first thought he might be brain dead from the crash and lack of oxygen to his brain. They did an echo of his brain and found some activity but slow. They again told us he wouldnt make it much longer.Fluid again started to build up but they couldnt put him on Hemo-dialysis again because they couldnt keep him stable enough.Things went all downhill from there.Late on the night of the 28th they told us they had maxed out on his medicines and he was still falling.About 5 am on the 29th they woke us up and said he was going. We went in and held him.We then made the hardest decision of our lives. We made the decision to have his life support turned off.He died in Robins arms at 5:33.She held him and sang to him for about an hour then we knew it was time to go.Our little boy is now in heaven.
Mommy and Daddy will keep this candle burning
until we are together again!!Forever!!!
